The project is expected to provide a stable power supply for local people and industrial development.

Unit 3 of the Kenya Olkaria I Geothermal Power Plant Rehabilitation Project, constructed by POWERCHINA, achieved its first grid connection on the initial attempt on May 24. Following the grid connection, all operating parameters of the unit remained stable, demonstrating excellent overall working conditions.

To achieve this grid connection, the project team strengthened collaboration and coordination with the owner, supervisors, and commissioning units. They inspected and organized the system's operating logic, as well as various protective interlocking devices, conducted multiple rounds of repeated calibration and commissioning, and optimized the unit's operating conditions to ensure smooth operation and a stable performance across all systems.

At the same time, they anticipated and analyzed potential risks in advance, formulated detailed prevention and control solutions, and built a comprehensive defense line for production and operational safety.

The grid connection of unit 3 marks a milestone in the project's construction. It demonstrates the team's technical expertise, efficient on-site management capabilities, and a high level of coordination and collaboration.

In the future, the project team will focus on subsequent construction goals, improve supporting systems, optimize unit operating efficiency, advance the commissioning of the remaining units, strive for perfection to improve equipment operation quality, and go all out to complete the project construction tasks and ensure they are of high quality.

The Olkaria I Geothermal Power Plant is the first of its kind in Africa. Once this rehabilitation project is completed, it will improve the local power supply capacity, meet the electricity needs of local people to sustain their livelihoods and industrial development, and boost local green, low-carbon, and sustainable development.
