NRG Energy Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire six power generation facilities from Texas-based Rockland Capital, LLC, adding 738 megawatts (MW) of modern, flexible natural gas-fired capacity to its portfolio. The acquisition includes one combined-cycle unit and five peaker units, further strengthening NRG’s position in the rapidly growing market.
NRG is acquiring these assets for $560 MM or $760 per kW, significantly below the cost of new construction. The acquisition is earnings-accretive and will be primarily funded through corporate debt, with no impact on the company's stated capital allocation plan.
“This acquisition reinforces our position as a leading generator in Texas,” said Robert J. Gaudette, Executive Vice President, President of NRG Business and Wholesale Operations. “Expanding our natural gas generation portfolio with modern, flexible assets enhances our integrated platform as Texas experiences record electricity growth driven by electrification, onshoring, population growth and data centers – creating long-term value for our shareholders.”
The acquisition is subject to Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) regulatory approval and is expected to close in 2Q 2025.

Petronas Seeking $1 Billion For Brazil Oil Field Stake Sale, Sources Say(Bloomberg) -- Malaysia’s Petroliam Nasional Berhad is working with Bank of America Corp. to sell its 50% stake in the Brazilian oil field Tartaruga Verde, according to people familiar with the matter.
Petronas, as the Kuala Lumpur-based company is known, is looking to get about $1 billion for the stake, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing non-public information. The discussions are at an early stage and a deal may not happen, the people said.
A representative for Bank of America declined to comment. Petronas didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Petronas bought the stake in the Tartaruga Verde oil field in 2019 as part of a bigger transaction with Petroleo Brasileiro SA, known as Petrobras, which still owns the remaining 50% stake. The field is based in the deep waters of Campos Basin in Rio de Janeiro state.

Oman’S Integrated Gas Company Approves $273 Million Gas Pipeline(Reuters) — Oman's state-owned Integrated Gas Company approved a new gas pipeline worth 105 million Omani riyals ($272.73 million), state news agency ONA said on Aug. 2.
The pipeline will contribute to a 4.5% increase in the national gas network's length, ONA said.
The pipeline will extend from the city of Ibri to Sohar, with an additional connection serving Ibri's industrial area.

Enbridge Sees High Demand To Expand 593-Mile Canada-To-U.S. Gulf Oil Pipeline(Reuters) — Canadian pipeline operator Enbridge said on Aug. 1 its recent commercial process to gauge oil shippers' interest in an expansion of its Flanagan South pipeline was oversubscribed, indicating strong demand for additional oil transport capacity from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast.
The success of the Flanagan South open season — an industry term for the binding process pipeline companies use to notify shippers of available capacity and solicit bids — brings Enbridge closer to formally sanctioning its proposed expansion of its Mainline network, CEO Greg Ebel said on a conference call.
He said Enbridge plans to make a final investment decision on the first phase of the project, which would add 150,000 barrels of capacity to the Mainline system, before the end of this year.
Enbridge's Mainline is the largest pipeline system in North America, with the capacity to move 3 million barrels per day of crude from Western Canada to markets in Eastern Canada and the U.S. Midwest. Flanagan South is a 954-km (593-mile) connector pipeline running from Illinois to Cushing, Oklahoma, and is part of the larger Mainline network.
The Mainline system was in apportionment — a term that means demand has exceeded available pipeline capacity — for six of the first eight months of 2025, Ebel said.
Canadian oil shipments to the U.S. are exempt from tariffs, and output from Canada's oil sands continues to rise. A recent report from S&P Global estimated Canada's oil sands will produce 3.8 million bpd of crude by 2030, a 15% increase from current levels.
Canada's Trans Mountain pipeline, which ships oil from Alberta to British Columbia's west coast, where it can be exported overseas, is eyeing its own capacity increases.
Polls in Canada — the world's fourth-largest oil producer — have shown an uptick in domestic support for a new oil pipeline to overseas markets, but no private company has indicated interest in building such a project. Ebel said on Friday a new pipeline is unlikely unless the federal government repeals some of its environmental policies, such as a proposed cap on greenhouse gas emissions from the oil sands as well as an existing ban on oil tankers off British Columbia's northern coast.
Enbridge earned adjusted profit of 65 Canadian cents per share for the quarter ended June 30, beating analysts' average expectation of 57 Canadian cents, according to data compiled by LSEG.
The company reported quarterly net income of C$2.18 billion.

Oil Majors Win $4.2 Billion Environmental Dispute In Kazakh Court(Bloomberg) – Partners in Kazakhstan’s second-largest oil field won a case in a local court over environmental fine that could have exceeded $4 billion, the venture said.
Kazakhstan previously sought to fine the Kashagan oil field venture partners for about 2.3 trillion tenge, or $5.1 billion at the time but $4.2 billion at current exchange rates.
“We welcome the Appellate Court’s decision which confirms the correctness of NCOC’s sulphur management operations, which are carried out responsibly and in compliance with the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and in line with applicable standards, and best practices,” operator NCOC and partners in the venture said in a statement.
The $55 billion Kashagan development in the Caspian Sea has been dogged by delays and cost overruns. Kazakh authorities have being pushing for higher revenue from the nation’s fields and sued the joint venture partners in international arbitration for more than $160 billion in damages. Most of that amount reflects lost revenue, but it also includes damages related to alleged environmental violations, and deals that Kazakhstan argued were tainted by corruption.
Last year, venture partners including Eni SpA, Shell Plc, Exxon Mobil Corp. and TotalEnergies SE proposed settling the sulfur case by making an additional investment in social projects of $110 million over the next two years, an expense that would be recoverable from Kashagan’s revenue under the production sharing contract.
The venture also proposed making additional payments related to the supply of liquefied petroleum gas to the government and to found a multimillion dollar social development fund, the people said.
The Kazakh energy ministry and the country’s environment-protection ministry didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

Mplx To Buy Northwind Midstream For $2.38 Billion, Boosting Permian Sour Gas Capacity(Reuters) — MPLX LP said on July 31 it will acquire Northwind Midstream for $2.38 billion in cash to expand its sour gas gathering and processing footprint in the Permian Basin, as producers ramp up drilling in New Mexico.
Northwind, backed by Five Point Infrastructure, operates in Lea County, New Mexico, with a network spanning more than 200 miles of pipeline and covering over 200,000 dedicated acres.
The company currently treats 150 million cubic feet per day (MMcfpd) of sour gas and has two acid gas injection (AGI) wells in service, with a third permitted.
AGI safely disposes of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, common sour gas byproducts, by injecting them deep underground to prevent harmful emissions.
An ongoing expansion is expected to increase Northwind's treating capacity to 440 MMcfpd by the second half of 2026.
Demand for sour gas treatment in the Delaware Basin has exceeded available infrastructure, as limited AGI permitting and capacity have slowed the pace of some producer activity.
MPLX said the deal would allow it to offer faster solutions to both existing and new customers in the region.
"The addition of 200,000 dedicated acres will increase MPLX's access to natural gas and NGL volumes," MPLX CEO Maryann Mannen said in a statement.
Dealmaking in the midstream sector has been picking up pace as some companies look to cut costs or add scale and gain access to attractive oil- and gas-producing regions as well as export facilities on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
The deal, financed with debt and expected to close in the third quarter, is expected to be immediately accretive to MPLX's distributable cash flow.

Spire To Acquire Duke Energy’S Piedmont Natural Gas Pipeline Network In $2.48 Billion DealSpire Inc. has reached an agreement with Piedmont Natural Gas, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Duke Energy, to acquire its Tennessee local natural gas pipeline network for $2.48 billion.
According to Spire’s announcement on Tuesday, July 29, the transaction, expected to close in the first quarter of calendar year 2026, is subject to approval by the Tennessee Public Utility Commission, Hart-Scott-Rodino review, and other customary closing conditions.
Upon completion, the acquisition of the natural gas distribution pipelines will transfer service for more than 200,000 natural gas customers in the Nashville area to the new Spire business unit, Spire Tennessee.
"This acquisition is a natural fit for Spire, allowing us to expand our core utility business and increase our utility customer base to nearly two million homes and businesses," said Scott Doyle, president and CEO of Spire.
He added that Spire looks forward to building on Piedmont Natural Gas's foundation of customer service and community engagement in Tennessee.
Piedmont Natural Gas operates as the largest investor-owned natural gas utility in Tennessee, serving the rapidly growing Nashville metro area with nearly 3,800 miles of pipelines.
Harry Sideris, Duke Energy president and CEO, stated the transaction allows Duke Energy to efficiently fund accelerating investment opportunities driven by customer growth and economic development.
"We're confident Spire will support the continued growth and success of the Tennessee natural gas business and serve as an incredible operator for the benefit of employees, customers, and communities," he added.
The acquisition will expand Spire's utility footprint, which currently includes operations in Missouri, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Blm Receives Application For 122-Mile Ridgeline Gas Pipeline In Tennessee(P&GJ) — The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has received a right-of-way application for the proposed 122-mile Ridgeline Expansion Pipeline, which would transport natural gas across central and eastern Tennessee.
East Tennessee Natural Gas LLC submitted the application (SF-299) on March 20, 2025, seeking permission to construct the line under a federal right-of-way authorization. The project would supply the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Kingston Fossil Plant as it transitions from coal to liquefied natural gas.
The pipeline would cross eight counties and traverse lands administered by the TVA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Under the Mineral Leasing Act, the BLM is responsible for granting a right-of-way and temporary use permit for pipelines crossing federal lands managed by multiple agencies.

Boskalis–Allseas Win $1.3 Billion Contract For Taiwan Offshore Gas Pipeline(P&GJ) — A Boskalis–Allseas consortium has secured a $1.3 billion contract from CPC Corporation Taiwan to construct the second offshore natural gas pipeline connecting Yongan to Tongxiao (YT2). The project is aimed at bolstering natural gas supply to northern Taiwan and supporting the nation’s energy transition.
The 36-inch pipeline will span approximately 232 kilometers (144 miles), running parallel to the existing YT1 pipeline between the Yongan LNG terminal in the southwest and the Tongxiao transfer station in the northwest. The scope includes trenching, installation across 34 infrastructure crossings, backfilling, and two landfalls.
Boskalis will handle landfalls, microtunneling, trenching, backfilling, and rock installation for the crossings, deploying large hopper dredgers, a backhoe dredger, and a subsea rock installation vessel. Allseas will manage pipelaying and pre-commissioning, including concrete mattress installation, using two advanced pipelay vessels.
“This landmark energy project is intended to support the acceleration of energy transition in Taiwan and improve the gas supply capacity in northern Taiwan,” the companies said in a joint statement.
Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and finish in 2028.

Allseas-Boskalis Consortium Bags $1.4B Offshore Gas Pipeline Job In TaiwanThe 50-50 consortium between Allseas and Boskalis has been awarded a large contract by CPC Corporation Taiwan for the second offshore gas pipeline from Yongan to Tongxiao (YT2) in Taiwan.
Under the contract, the consortium will design, construct, install and pre-commission the new YT2 36-inch offshore natural gas pipeline, which will run approximately 232 kilometers parallel to the existing YT1 pipeline, connecting the Yongan LNG terminal in the Southwest with the Tongxiao transfer station in the Northwest.
The comprehensive scope of work includes trenching, pipeline installation with 34 crossings over existing and future infrastructure and assets, backfilling and two landfalls.
Within the consortium, Allseas will carry out the pipeline installation and pre-commissioning, including the pre-lay installation of concrete mattresses. For these activities, Allseas will deploy two of the most advanced pipelay vessels in the industry.
Boskalis will be responsible for the landfalls and associated microtunnelling activities, as well as nearshore and offshore trenching, backfilling, and the installation of rocks for the 34 pipeline crossings. For these activities, Boskalis will deploy two large hopper dredgers, a large backhoe dredger, and a subsea rock installation vessel.
The total contract value for the landmark energy project, developed to accelerate energy transition and improve gas supply capacity in Taiwan, is approximately $1.4 billion (€ 1.2 billion).
Project execution is scheduled to begin in 2026, with completion anticipated in 2028.

Duke Energy To Sell Tennessee Gas Business, 3,800 Miles Of Pipelines, For $2.48 Billion(P&GJ) — Duke Energy has agreed to sell its Tennessee natural gas distribution business, Piedmont Natural Gas, to Spire Inc. for $2.48 billion in cash. The deal includes nearly 3,800 miles of distribution and transmission pipelines and a liquefied natural gas facility serving about 205,000 customers in the Greater Nashville area.
The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approval from the Tennessee Public Utility Commission and other customary conditions.
Duke Energy said about $800 million of the proceeds will be used to pay down debt at Piedmont Natural Gas, with the remaining $1.5 billion going toward its $83 billion, five-year capital plan focused on grid modernization and energy transition initiatives.

Utility Duke Energy To Sell Tennessee (U.S.) Natural Gas Business For $2.48 BDuke Energy said it would sell its Tennessee natural gas distribution business to Spire for $2.48 B in cash, as the utility aims to streamline operations and unlock capital to invest in electric grid upgrades.
About $800 million of the proceeds will be used to pay down debt at Piedmont Natural Gas, while the remaining $1.5 billion will support Duke's $83 billion five-year capital plan focused on grid modernization and energy transition, the company said in a statement.

Pttep Acquires Offshore Gas Block In $450 Million Deal With Chevron SubsidiariesPTTEP, Thailand's national E&P company, has signed an agreement to buy 100% of the outstanding shares of Hess International Oil Corporation, which holds a 50% participating interest in the offshore natural gas Block A-18 of the Malaysia–Thailand Joint Development Area (MTJDA). The purchase deal is valued at $450 million (USD). Both sellers, Hess (Bahamas) Limited and Hess Asia Holdings Inc., are wholly owned subsidiaries of Chevron following Chevron's takeover of Hess Corp.
This transaction immediately enhances PTTEP’s gas production volume, petroleum reserves, and increases the company’s investment in the MTJDA from the existing 50% participating interest in Block B-17-01, PTTEP said in a news release.
Block A-18 currently produces 600 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day (MMscfg/d) which is equally distributed to Thailand and Malaysia. The 300 MMscfg/d supplied to Thailand accounts for 6% of the country’s domestic gas demand.
“PTTEP is pleased to further expand our operations in the MTJDA, which is recognized for its petroleum potential and strategic significance to Thailand’s energy security," said Mr. Montri Rawanchaikul, CEO of PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP). "The acquisition also contributes to the company’s growth. Apart from the existing producing fields, Block A-18 includes several discovered gas fields awaiting development to unlock their full potential. Participation in Block A-18 also fosters operational synergy with Block B-17-01, enhancing efficiency to ensure continuous and accelerated energy supply for both countries.”
Additional production wells and wellhead platforms, along with gas construction of gas pipelines, will be developed to support a consistent and reliable gas supply.
MTJDA is located in the southern part of the Gulf of Thailand. Covering an area of approximately 7,250 square km, it is a key source of natural gas and condensate for Thailand and Malaysia.
