Euroports Group and Noatun project companies, jointly held by OX2 and Ålandsbanken Offshore Wind I, have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to establish Koverhar Harbour in Hanko as a key logistics hub for the construction of the offshore wind farm project Noatun North, including an option for Noatun South.
The collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening Finland’s offshore wind infrastructure and securing essential port capacity to support the industry’s expansion.
The Noatun North Project is expected to comprise of up to 250 turbines with a total capacity of up to 4,000 MW.
The use of Koverhar Harbour for this project is planned to start in 2030, requiring a significant port capacity to accommodate the storage, assembly, and transport of key wind turbine components.
Unlike a greenfield development, Koverhar Harbour already possesses the fundamental infrastructure needed for the offshore wind logistics.
With limited adaptations and targeted investments, it can be quickly optimized to serve the industry, making it a highly efficient and cost-effective solution.
The LoI outlines a framework for evaluating storage, assembly and logistical needs. In addition, the Port of Hanko and Euroports have a separate exclusive agreement to explore the long-term development of Koverhar Harbour to meet the growing demands of offshore wind projects.
“This agreement cements Koverhar Harbour’s role as a vital node in the offshore wind supply chain in the Baltics. Our expertise in port operations and logistics will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless execution of these projects, and we look forward to working alongside OX2 to bring this vision to life”, said Frédéric Platini, CEO & Vice Chairman of Euroports.

Asso.Subsea Wins Multi-Project Deal For Tennet’S 2Gw Grid Build-OutGreek offshore contractor Asso.subsea has secured a major spread of cable installation and protection work from France’s Nexans across three of TenneT’s flagship 2GW offshore transmission projects in the German North Sea. The awards cover the BalWin3, LanWin2 and LanWin4 developments, with offshore campaigns slated to run from 2027 through 2031.
The multi-year scope, with an undisclosed value, includes more than 650 km of offshore cable burial and over 60 km of nearshore laying and burial. Operations will be centred around the cable-laying vessel Atalanti, which is being outfitted with a modified turntable to handle Nexans’ four-cable bundle configuration — two 525 kV HVDC export cables, one metallic return line and a fibre-optic cable.
Asso.subsea will also deploy its trenching support fleet, including the newbuild Avra, due to join the company in early 2028. Burial work will combine jetting and mechanical trenching using the company’s AssoTrencher IV and AssoJet III systems, backed by full as-laid and as-buried survey coverage. The nearshore element of the projects will involve cable loading and transport from Nexans’ Norwegian facility, as well as beach pulls and simultaneous lay-and-bury operations — areas where Asso.subsea has built a strong track record.
Earlier this year, the company also secured nearshore cable installation scope for TenneT’s BalWin4, LanWin1, and LanWin5, located off the northwestern coast of Baltrum Island.
“These awards are a strong recognition of our ability to execute highly demanding scopes, from precision nearshore operations to deep-water burial campaigns,” said Alessandro Panico, director of business development at Asso.subsea. He added that the latest wins underscore the contractor’s long-running partnership with Nexans and its role in delivering Europe’s expanding offshore grid.
In related news, Enshore Subsea has been awarded a contract for the shallow water cable installation work on the three offshore grid connection systems. The UK-based subsea specialist will be responsible for installing the Wadden Sea sections, with work scheduled for 2027, 2029, and 2030.

Hd Hyundai Advances $2-Billion Shipyard Proposal In Tamil NaduSouth Korea’s HD Hyundai is moving ahead with plans to set up a major shipbuilding facility in India, following the signing of an exclusive agreement with the Tamil Nadu government. The pact was formalised on Sunday in Madurai, according to a report by Pulse, the English platform of Maeil Business News Korea.
The proposed shipyard is estimated to involve an investment of around USD 2 billion, as cited by Indian media reports referenced by Pulse. HD Hyundai, however, clarified that the size and structure of the investment are still under evaluation.
The initiative aligns with India’s broader push to elevate its shipbuilding ecosystem and emerge as the world’s fifth-largest maritime manufacturing hub. Tamil Nadu is one of the four shortlisted states for new shipyard development, alongside Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. Should the state be formally chosen, HD Hyundai is expected to emerge as a leading partner in India’s flagship shipyard expansion program.
The Thoothukudi region has been highlighted by the company as a strong contender for the project, owing to its climatic similarity to Ulsan—the base of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries—and ongoing investments in adjacent port infrastructure.
HD Hyundai has been steadily deepening its engagements in India. Earlier this month, it signed a cooperation agreement with BEML, a public-sector company under the Ministry of Defence, to strengthen collaboration in crane manufacturing. The partnership will span design, production, and quality assurance, with plans to supply Goliath and jib cranes to Indian shipyards.
In July, the South Korean major entered into a long-term memorandum of understanding with Cochin Shipyard Limited, India’s largest state-owned shipbuilder. That partnership has recently broadened to include naval shipbuilding projects, reflecting HD Hyundai’s strategy to expand its presence in India’s fast-growing maritime sector.

Iran Seizes Ship Carrying 350,000 Litres Of Smuggled Fuel In The Persian GulfIran has seized a vessel said to be carrying 350,000 litres of smuggled gas oil (diesel) from the country.
The Eswatini-flagged ship was stopped in the Persian Gulf, and its 13 crew members, hailing from India and a neighbouring country, have also been detained.
Per sources, the ship was seized under a judicial order and taken to the shores of Bushhr.
The fuel is being offloaded and will be given to Bushehr Oil Products Refining and Distribution Company.
This is not the first time that Iran has seized vessels in the region by accusing them of smuggling fuel.
On November 29, Ali Salami-zadeh, the prosecutor of Kish Island, said that two vessels were seized in the Persian Gulf for smuggling 80,000 litres of fuel.
In March, two foreign tankers, called Star 1 and Winteg, were also confiscated in the Persian Gulf.
At that time, the IRGC said that the tankers had 25 crew and were carrying over 3 million litres of smuggled diesel fuel.
Iranian officials usually cite fuel smuggling as one of the major reasons for raising fuel prices in the country.
Masoud Pezeshkian, president of Iran, said in January 2025 that 20 to 30 million litres of gasoline are smuggled daily and called it a catastrophe as the supply chain from production to distribution is in their own hands.
However, such large-scale fuel smuggling is not possible without the involvement of the IRGC, as it controls and oversees all the imports and exports via unofficial ports and airports.

Ad Ports Cashes Out Of Nmdc Stake In $436M DealAD Ports Group has sold its 9.77% stake in National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC) to Alpha Dhabi Holding in a $436m transaction, marking the ports group’s third divestment of non-core assets this year.
The stake was originally transferred to AD Ports Group by Abu Dhabi’s investment arm ADQ ahead of the company’s listing in 2022. Over less than four years, the holding delivered a total shareholder return of 17% through dividends and capital gains, the Abu Dhabi-based ports and logistics giant said.
AD Ports said the sale fits its strategy to monetise non-core assets and recycle capital into higher-return opportunities while reducing leverage. Proceeds from the deal will go toward strengthening the balance sheet, where the group reported AED 17bn ($4.62bn) in net debt at the end of September. Earlier divestments included land and logistics facilities sold to Mira Developments and Aldar Properties.
Group CEO Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi said the transaction reinforces AD Ports’ commitment to active portfolio management. “The proceeds strengthen the Group’s financial position and capital structure,” he said, adding that the company will continue reshaping its asset base to maximise value.
Alpha Dhabi, already the dominant shareholder, will see its stake in NMDC rise to around 77%. The Abu Dhabi-based investment group said the acquisition aligns with its focus on scaling industrial platforms tied to the UAE’s long-term economic agenda.
Alpha Dhabi CEO Hamad Salem Al Ameri said the deal reflects the company’s push into high-impact industrial sectors that “align with national priorities and global trends.”
UAE-based NMDC remains a major player in EPC and marine dredging, with a growing international footprint through multiple joint ventures.

HD Hyundai has secured an order for ultra-large container ships worth around 1.46 billion USD, recording the largest container ship order volume in 18 years since the shipbuilding supercycle in 2007.
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding business, announced on Sunday, November 23, that it has signed a shipbuilding contract with HMM for eight 13,400-TEU dual-fuel container ships. The total contract value amounts to 1.456 billion USD.
The vessels ordered are 337 meters in length, 51 meters in width, and 27.9 meters in height. They are equipped with LNG dual-fuel engines and a significantly enlarged fuel tank—expanded by approximately 50%—to enhance operational efficiency. Of the eight vessels, two will be built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and six by HD Hyundai Samho, with deliveries scheduled consecutively through the first half of 2029.
Through this contract, HD Hyundai has achieved its largest container-ship order volume since 2007, when global cargo demand peaked during the economic boom (793,473 TEU). HD KSOE has secured orders for a total of 720,000 TEU (69 vessels) in container ships this year, marking the highest order volume among domestic shipbuilders.
Container ships built by HD Hyundai are regarded as highly cost-competitive when considering operating expenses over the vessel’s entire lifecycle, despite their relatively higher prices compared to competitors.
Since 2023, HD Hyundai has applied “HiNAS Control”—an autonomous navigation assistance system developed by Avikus, a subsidiary specializing in autonomous navigation—to newly built vessels. Actual operational data has confirmed that the system’s autonomous navigation support features and RPM optimization deliver a 15% reduction in carbon emissions and a 15% improvement in fuel efficiency.
An HD Hyundai representative stated, “We are further solidifying our position in the global market based on advanced technological capabilities and customer trust,” adding, “Going forward, we will continue to lead the decarbonization of the shipbuilding and shipping industries through technological competitiveness focused on eco-friendly and high-efficiency vessels.”

Atlas Maritime Revealed As Seller In $194M Okeanis Suezmax DealGreek owner Okeanis Eco Tankers disclosed last week that it is expanding its crude fleet with the purchase of two suezmax newbuilding resales. Brokers now reveal the seller as Atlas Maritime, with the vessels identified as Viking Star and North Star.
The New York- and Oslo-listed company, controlled by the Alafouzos family, has agreed to pay $97m each for the 157,000 dwt ships, which are under construction at Daehan Shipbuilding in South Korea.
The deal leaves Leon Patitsas-led Atlas Maritime with seven tankers from the same yard in the water, six of which hit the water this year and one 2023 model—four LR2s, two suezmaxes and one aframax—alongside a further 12 ships on order.

Greece’S Thessaloniki Port Launches Largest €195.6M Expansion In Its HistoryThe Thessaloniki Port Authority in Greece has embarked on its largest expansion project ever with the signing of a major construction contract, initiating one of the most significant infrastructure upgrades in its history.
Port of Thessaloniki (ThPA S.A.) and the joint venture “METKA S.A.-TEKAL S.A. (PIER 6) J/V” on Wednesday signed the construction works contract for the expansion of the port infrastructure of Pier 6 of the port, marking a major milestone in the port’s long-term development strategy.
The contract concerns Mandatory Enhancements No. 1 (Pier 6, Port Infrastructure Expansion) of the Concession Agreement between the Hellenic Republic and ThPA S.A.
The project includes the expansion of Pier 6, with an additional length of 513 meters, a width of 306.5 meters, and the significant deepening (dredging) of the navigation channel and the vessels’ maneuvering area, for the safe mooring of even the ULCV type vessels (ultra large container vessels).
The signing of the contract signals the start of the main construction phase, with an implementation period of 40 months and a total budget of 195.6 million euro.
Once completed, the expansion will increase the total capacity of the Container Terminal from 650,000 TEU to 1,500,000 TEU, enabling Thessaloniki to serve simultaneously a higher number of container vessels and accommodate ultra large container vessels of up to 24,000 TEU – unique capabilities for Northern Greece.
According to ThPA S.A., the financing of the project will be covered from the own existing capital of ThPA S.A. as well as from banking loans.
Dr Ioannis Tsaras, the chief executive officer of ThPA S.A., noted: “With the signing of the contract, the Port of Thessaloniki is entering a new era of development. The expansion of Pier 6, the largest upgrade project in the history of the port, creates the conditions for Thessaloniki to strengthen its role in the Mediterranean as a strategic trade hub for Southeast Europe.
“This is not just an important piece of infrastructure, but a project that increases the operational capacity of the port, empowers the regional logistics ecosystem, and generates varied and multiplier benefits at both the local and national level.”

Record-Seizure Of $362M Worth Of Cocaine Offloaded At Port EvergladesCocaine, weighing over 49,000 pounds, was seized during 15 separate interdictions by the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Stone during operations in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
The Coast Guard offloaded over $362m worth of cocaine at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
Administration, Coast Guard and joint agency partner leadership held a press conference during the drug offload at Port Everglades.
Several Coast Guard officials were in attendance as the Stone’s crew offloaded approximately 49,010 pounds of illicit narcotics.
Officials said this is a result of 15 interdictions in international waters of the Eastern Pacific Ocean by the crews of U.S. Coast Guard.
US Coast Guard said it’s the largest cocaine seizure by a single cutter in one patrol in the Coast Guard’s history.
To remind, USCGC Stone is one of four 418-foot Legend-class national security cutters homeported in Charleston, South Carolina, under U.S. Coast Guard Atlantic Area Command.
“I am extremely proud of the crew’s incredible performance during this deployment,” said Capt. Anne O’Connell, commanding officer, Coast Guard Cutter Stone. “This offload demonstrates our increased posture and continued success in the fight against narco-terrorism and transnational criminal organizations.”
Officials noted that 80% of U.S.-bound narcotics seizures occur at sea, underscoring the significance of maritime interdictions.
Interdictions in the Eastern Pacific Ocean are performed by members of the U.S. Coast Guard under the authority and control of the Coast Guard’s Southwest District, headquartered in Alameda, California.

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the intermediate shipbuilding holding company of HD Hyundai, said on the 18th that it signed a construction contract with a shipowner in North America for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
The total order value is 741.2 billion won, and the vessels will be built by HD Hyundai Samho and delivered sequentially by the second half of 2028.
Including this order, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has won a total of 104 ships ($14.24 billion), achieving 78.9% of its annual target ($18.05 billion).
By ship type, the orders are seven LNG carriers, six LNG bunkering vessels, nine liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and ammonia carriers, two ethane carriers, 61 container ships, 16 tankers, and three PC ships.

A concession agreement for the development of the Laldia Container Terminal in Chattogram, Bangladesh, has been signed between the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) and APM Terminals, part of Danish shipping conglomerate A.P. Moller-Maersk, together with local partner QNS Container Services Ltd.
APM Terminals states that the concession agreement will allow the company to operate the terminal for a period of 30 years, which can be extended based on KPIs (key performance indicators).
The Laldia Container Terminal will be fully designed, financed, built and operated by the investors as a first-of-its-kind model for Bangladesh’s port infrastructure, and the project represents an investment exceeding $550m, making it one of the largest Public Private Partnership (PPP) investments in the country’s history.
The project is part of the Sustainable Green Framework Engagement between Denmark and Bangladesh, a bilateral initiative aimed at fostering green investment, job creation and sustainable economic relations.
Once operational in 2030, the terminal will expand Bangladesh’s annual port handling capacity by over 800,000 TEUs (twenty-feet equivalent units), improving the country’s global trade efficiency and connectivity, thereby helping the key engines of Bangladesh’s export economy such as textiles, apparel and manufacturing reach their import markets around the world.
The new deep-water facility will, over time, allow the Port of Chattogram to handle vessels potentially up to 6,000 TEU, compared to the current limit of 2,800 TEU, and the terminal is expected to generate over 1,000 jobs during construction and more than 500 when in operation.
“It is with great honour that we enter this agreement with Bangladesh, which underscores the great potential that this important market has. This greenfield project enables us to play an active role in supporting the growth of the local manufacturers, exporters, importers and the broader Bangladeshi economy. Okeanis Eco Tankers Moves For Two Suezmax Resales In $194M DealGreek owner Okeanis Eco Tankers is moving to expand its crude fleet with the purchase of two suezmax newbuilding resales, backed by a planned share issue to help finance the deal.
The New York- and Oslo-listed company, controlled by the Alafouzos family, has agreed to buy the 157,000 dwt tankers for $97m each. The vessels are under construction at Daehan Shipbuilding in South Korea and are being acquired from an undisclosed third-party seller.
Okeanis said it has signed separate memoranda of agreement for each ship, with both units scheduled for delivery in January 2026. The acquisitions are contingent on the company completing a new equity offering, with proceeds earmarked to cover part of the purchase price.
The move extends Okeanis Eco Tankers’ pattern of adding modern, fuel-efficient crude tankers to its fleet at a time of continued firm earnings in the suezmax segment. The company’s current fleet consists of six scrubber-fitted suezmaxe and eight scrubber-fitted VLCC tankers, built between 2016 and 2022.

CALLAO, Peru, Nov 19 (Reuters) – Dutch port operator APM Terminals will invest $550 million to expand Peru’s Callao port starting in January, chief commercial officer for the company’s Peru unit, Fernando Fauche, said on Wednesday.
The two-year project aims to increase the terminal’s capacity to 24,000 containers, Fauche told journalists during an event celebrating the launch of direct arrivals from Asia to the facility on Peru’s central coast.
Peru’s Callao port in November began offering new direct shipping routes from China and South Korea, cutting transit times to about 23 days, port officials confirmed on Wednesday. The service is designed to strengthen trade ties with Asia and position Callao as a key Pacific hub for Asian imports.
Initial shipments have included retail products from Chinese e-commerce platforms such as Temu, according to Fauche.
“Shipments are fully booked for the next six weeks. There’s demand,” he added.
APM and local port authorities described the nearby Chinese-built megaport of Chancay north of Lima as “complementary,” though industry analysts warn that the two facilities could compete for Asian cargo as infrastructure investments accelerate along Peru’s Pacific coast.
