South East Central Railway (SECR) has made significant strides in expanding its rail network and enhancing infrastructure during the financial year 2024-25, completing 200.15 kilometers of new railway sections at a total cost of ₹2,896.53 crore.
Key projects include the addition of 91.52 kilometers of rail lines under the Anuppur-Katni third line project. This includes several new sections, such as Badwabara–Ghunguti (13 km), Ghunguti–Mudaria (10.7 km), and Mudaria–Birsinghpur (5.6 km), among others.
The Rajnandgaon–Nagpur third line project contributed 63.96 kilometers to the network, with new sections including Paniajob–Bortalav (8 km), Kamptee–Kalamna (7.72 km), and Gondia–Gangajhari (13.74 km).
Under the Bilaspur–Jharsuguda fourth line project, SECR completed 54.57 kilometers of new rail sections, covering routes such as Bilaspur–Gatora (8 km) and Raigarh–Kotarlia (9 km).
Additionally, the Kendri–Dhamtari and Abhanpur–Rajim gauge conversion project saw the completion of 17.3 kilometers of rail lines, boosting connectivity between Abhanpur and Rajim.
SECR officials stated that these expansions will enhance railway capacity, improve speed and punctuality, and ease both passenger and freight transport. The improved connectivity is also expected to foster regional development, reduce congestion, and provide alternative routes to ensure smooth operations during emergencies.
The projects also align with SECR's commitment to sustainable and green railway development.
Following construction, each new rail line will undergo non-interlocking procedures, including yard modifications and track linking, which may temporarily affect passenger services. Passengers are advised to support the ongoing development efforts for improved future facilities.
