Birmingham Airport (BHX) has appointed global built environment consultancy Arup to develop its next masterplan, outlining the airport’s growth and transformation strategy through to 2041.
The plan will set out how the airport intends to accommodate future passenger and airline growth while prioritizing sustainability, operational efficiency and an improved passenger experience.
The appointment follows Birmingham Airport’s return to pre-pandemic passenger volumes and announcement of a £300m (US$395m), four-year infrastructure investment program. The masterplan aims to build on this investment and define how the airport can continue to support regional and national economic growth.
Ian Taylor, development and construction direction at Birmingham Airport, said “We are delighted to have Arup on board, who are world-class at planning major infrastructure projects.”

Work on the masterplan has already begun, with a draft expected to go out for public consultation in summer 2026. Local communities and stakeholders will be invited to provide feedback to help shape the airport’s long-term development.
The initiative comes during a year of record investment and passenger growth for Birmingham Airport, alongside changes in its ownership structure. In 2025, Macquarie Asset Management acquired a 26.5% stake in the airport, adding to its global portfolio of aviation assets.

Panynj Outlines Airport Modernisation In Proposed $45 Billion Capital PlanThe Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) has published its proposed 45 billion USD capital plan for 2026–2035, setting out a decade of investment across its aviation network, including major upgrades at JFK, Newark Liberty and LaGuardia.
The authority states that the plan builds on the momentum of current redevelopment programmes and is structured to address growing demand, climate resilience requirements and the need for modern, reliable passenger infrastructure. As with previous plans, the programme is funded without state or local tax revenue.
The capital plan advances the multi-year redevelopment of John F. Kennedy International Airport, one of the largest airport transformation projects underway in the United States.
A significant element is the planned redesign of AirTrain JFK, with higher-capacity trains and upgraded stations intended to improve service reliability and support the expanded terminal footprint. The first gates of the new Terminal 1 and Terminal 6 are due to open in 2026, alongside further phases of the airport’s redesigned internal roadway network.
At Newark Liberty International Airport, work on the new 3.5 billion USD AirTrain Newark continues. The replacement system is designed to deliver improved reliability, longer trains and more efficient inter-terminal, parking and rail-station connections.

The redevelopment is designed to manage increased passenger demand and integrate LaGuardia more effectively into the region’s transit network.
Airport-linked sustainability measures feature prominently. The authority has earmarked funding to support its target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 50 per cent by 2030. This includes fleet electrification, zero-emission ground operations where feasible, and resilience projects designed to mitigate extreme weather impacts across airfield, terminal and landside infrastructure.
The capital plan maintains support for digital transformation, with ongoing development of autonomous technologies, AI tools and advanced air-mobility concepts. These initiatives aim to enhance operational efficiency, safety and passenger flow management across the aviation network.
Alongside the capital plan, the Port Authority has issued its 2026 budget proposal, totalling 10.1 billion USD. Of this, 4.1 billion USD is allocated to capital works, including AirTrain Newark construction, continued redevelopment at JFK, and state-of-good-repair programmes across the three major airports.
Passenger volumes are expected to remain strong in 2026, with demand forecasts underpinning investment in new terminal capacity, modernised AirTrain systems and broader access improvements.

Heathrow’s 27th Business Summit brought together nearly a thousand SMEs, announcing plans to double supply chain investment to £2 billion by 2027.

Nearly a thousand business leaders gathered at the Allianz Stadium in Twickenham for the 27th Heathrow Business Summit, marking the biggest event in its history. The summit celebrated small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from London and across the UK that form the backbone of the airport’s supply chain and the wider economy.
Heathrow Airport currently invests over £1 billion annually in its supply chain but plans to double this to £2 billion by 2027, creating greater opportunities for SMEs to participate. Local and smaller firms already make up 60 per cent of Heathrow’s suppliers, underpinning employment and contributing to national growth. From family-run companies to innovative start-ups, these businesses play a key role in keeping more than 80 million passengers and £215 billion of trade moving through the airport each year.
The event, held in partnership with local chambers of commerce and business organisations, featured speeches by Heathrow’s Chief Executive, Thomas Woldbye, and Lord David Blunkett, along with panel discussions led by senior Heathrow representatives and existing suppliers. Participants attended workshops detailing the supplier journey and took part in Meet the Buyer sessions, connecting directly with decision-makers from Tier 1 suppliers to discuss potential collaborations.

Becky Coffin, Heathrow’s Director of Communities and Sustainability, highlighted the scale of upcoming investment: “Heathrow is embarking on a major upgrade programme to modernise the airport and enhance the experience for our passengers. Our five-year plan looks to double our private investment to £10 billion, and SMEs will be vital in helping us deliver these upgrades to ensure an even better service.

That growth is not just measured in passenger numbers or infrastructure but in lives improved, careers built and local economies strengthened. Birmingham Airport To Commit To £300 Million Worth Of InvestmentsBirmingham Airport is set to receive 300 million GBP worth of investment over the next four years as passenger numbers are forecasted to reach 17 million by 2029.
Announced at the Regional Investment Summit by CEO Nick Barton; the airport is currently in its most ambitious year for capital investment, with a further 75 million scheduled to be spent each year between 2025 and 2029.
The Airport has also confirmed it has begun a process to deliver its next Masterplan for the airport and its associated demand up to 2040.
Major projects currently being undertaken at the airport include an increase in retail and hospitality offerings over the next three years, such as a multi-million-pound refurbishment from WDF, as well as three new food and beverage outlets within the departure lounge.
The airfield is also set to see a significant spend, including the reconstruction of parts of taxiways, new stands, lighting replacement and runway works totalling 40 million GBP.
Baggage capacity for both inbound and outbound passengers will receive an overhaul, with an additional 40 million GBP invested in self-service drop off, baggage sortation systems and greater handling capabilities. e-Gates are set to be installed within the south terminal in time for next summer, alongside investments in security lane efficiencies and customer facility upgrades in both arrivals and departures.
With a rolling programme of roughly 50 million GBP; heating and cooling systems in the terminal will be installed and managed by sustainable programmes throughout the year. Millions have also been put aside for ongoing electricity metering, the replacement of gas assets and a rolling programme of fleet (both airside and passenger)electrification and replacement.
We are currently in our most successful year ever at the airport and we are confident this growth is set to continue. We have already made significant investment in the airport this year, having delivered new departure gates, lounges on the international pier, additional security lanes, new retail offerings and baggage capacity to name only a few projects.
But we need to go further as we can see more growth coming, however we need to do this in a responsible way for the airport, its colleagues and local communities. We need to make sure all areas are fit for the future including check in, immigration, security, retail and our airfield. Our plan for the next three to four years shows how we are on our way to delivering more choice for our passengers and enhanced service, whilst continuing the journey to Net Zero.
The Airport has stated that whilst multiple construction projects are underway, preparation areas are visible but limited, with works carefully planned to avoid disruption, and whilst the investments have been announced, they are dependent on a stable and reasonable taxation environment in the upcoming budget.

Sunshine Coast Airport’s domestic terminal will nearly double in size, adding gates, lounges, sustainable design features, and improved passenger experiences, with construction led by McNab.

Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY) has appointed construction company McNab as the builder of its highly anticipated domestic Terminal Redevelopment Project. Global architectural firm Populous | Fentress Studios is designing the terminal, marking a major milestone in the expansion and growth of one of Australia’s fastest-growing airports.
The redevelopment will deliver a modern, sustainable, and passenger-focused expansion designed to meet future demand, improve efficiency, and enhance the travel experience for locals and visitors alike. The project will almost double the size of the terminal, increase departure gates from five to seven, and triple the departure lounge footprint.
Sunshine Coast Airport CEO Chris Mills said the appointment of McNab and Populous | Fentress Studios reflected the airport’s commitment to working with respected partners to deliver world-class outcomes for the region. Planned Performance are the project managers, and their proven expertise in Australian airport terminal expansions has been vital in guiding this project.
“The Terminal Redevelopment Project is a major milestone in the airport’s expansion with approximately $170 million being invested to support the future of our airport and our region,” Mr Mills said.
Mr Mills said the redevelopment would support local jobs, provide a significant boost to the economy, and strengthen the Sunshine Coast’s role as a key tourism and business gateway.
“Importantly this project has been shaped by community input, so the terminal reflects local needs and expectations with their insights directly influencing key design features, amenities, and the overall experience. From the look and feel of the terminal to how we welcome and serve travellers, locals helped shape more than just a space, they helped shape a better journey for everyone.”
“The redevelopment will also incorporate expanded retail and food offerings, latest technology for check-in and security, as well as sustainable design features building on existing initiatives,” Mr Mills added.
Sunshine Coast Airport Chair David Ryan said he was thrilled to see the project officially underway and pleased to have appointed a builder with such a strong reputation.
“McNab’s proven track record of delivering high-quality projects in our region gives us great confidence,” Mr Ryan said.
McNab CEO Kunjan Ganatra said the company was proud to bring its expertise to such a transformational project for the region.
“McNab has been contributing landmark projects to help shape the Sunshine Coast landscape since we opened our Maroochydore office in 2017, and this project is another step in building the region’s future,” he said.
“We will see around 2,000 people working on this project, with 90 per cent of trades and subcontractors coming from within our region. Together we will deliver a terminal our community can be proud of – one that combines smart design, sustainability and a strong sense of place.”
“This is not just about bricks and mortar. It’s about creating a space that will act as an entry statement to the Sunshine Coast and serve generations of locals and visitors, and we’re proud to be a part of it,” Mr Ganatra said.
Populous | Fentress Studios Asia Pacific Head of Aviation Matt Findlay said the terminal design would reflect the unique character of the Sunshine Coast while delivering a seamless passenger experience.
“Our vision for the terminal is to create a space that celebrates the Sunshine Coast’s natural beauty and lifestyle while providing travellers with a modern, efficient and welcoming gateway.
“The design prioritises natural light with sweeping views of the runway, allowing passengers to experience the excitement of aircraft arrivals and departures from the comfort of the terminal.
“By seamlessly integrating security and check-in, enhancing the arrival experience, and reducing the distance between check-in and boarding gates, we’re reimagining the terminal journey to be more intuitive, efficient, and welcoming for every passenger. Sustainability and accessibility remain at the heart of every design decision, alongside greater passenger seating and amenities,” Mr Findlay said.
The Terminal Redevelopment Project will be delivered in stages to minimise disruption to passengers and ensure continuity of operations. The first stage is already underway, with the new outbound checked baggage handling facility scheduled for completion in early 2026, and the full domestic terminal expansion to be completed by 2027. By 2030, Sunshine Coast Airport is forecast to welcome 2.4 million passengers annually.

Ontario International Airport Welcomes Brewery X And Chick-Fil-A Expansions, Adding Exciting New Dining Options For TraveleBrewery X, the popular craft brewer that opened its first airport location in Terminal 2 in November 2023, will open a second location in Terminal 4 across from Gate 408, next to ONT’s California Science Center interactive space. Brewery X’s presence at ONT is a unique expression of regional pride, partnering with a locally based business to deliver a distinctly Southern California experience for travelers. The Anaheim-based brewery also has introduced a signature ONT-branded blonde ale, “Come Fly With Me,” which has quickly become a top seller.

Both new locations are expected to open in the second quarter of 2026.

Perth Airport Expansion Plan To Include New Qantas Domestic TerminalPerth Airport (PER) has detailed expansion plans comprising multiple projects—including building a new domestic terminal—to accommodate expected passenger growth.
In a draft of a new master plan published for public comment, the Western Australian airport said it expects annual passengers to grow from around 17.5 million currently to 30.8 million in 2046. PER plans to complete a “multi-billion dollar” infrastructure improvement program by 2031 that will include expanding Terminal 1 and building a new domestic terminal to be used by Qantas Group.
Also planned is a new runway to be located parallel to PER’s main runway, a new 237-room hotel on airport grounds, and two new automobile parking garages.
“We have begun work on the largest private investment in infrastructure in Perth’s history, which will be delivered over the course of this five-year plan,” PER CEO Jason Waters said. “The time for talking is over. We are now delivering a once-in-a-generation construction program that will completely change the face of Perth Airport.”
The release of the master plan, which is expected to be finalized in 2026, comes as PER nears completion of an expansion of Terminal 2, which is expected to be finished in 2026.
The 3,000 m (9,843 ft.) parallel runway is anticipated to be operational in 2028, the airport said. The expansion of Terminal 1 and the building of the new domestic terminal are planned to be completed “around 2031,” according to PER. The new hotel, to be operated by Australian hotel firm Accor, is expected to open in 2027.
PER is the fourth largest Australian airport by passenger volume, served by 30 airlines operating to 114 destinations. It is located on 2,105 hectares (8 mi.2) of land owned by the Australian government. Private operator Perth Airport Pty manages PER under a long-term lease with the Australian government.

Casper / Natrona County International Airport Announces Highest Number Of September Passenger Enplanements In Over 40 YearsCASPER, WY – Casper / Natrona County International Airport saw 8,978 September passenger enplanements, the highest number of September fliers since 1983, when the total crested 9,000.
“This points to a change in people’s fall travel habits and their increased choice to use Casper/Natrona County to fly instead of driving to other airports,” said Glenn Januska, Airport Director. “We track these numbers to help support additional air service.”
Since 2020, C/NCIA has been steadily increasing in annual passenger counts, just missing 100,000 enplaned passengers in 2025. Based on this year’s data through September, it is anticipated enplanements will exceed 100,000 in total.

Cody Bauman, A.A.E., will lead the District’s Operations, Facilities and Asset Management, and Public Safety functions, including Police and Fire. As a part of GSP’s executive leadership team, Mr. Bauman will ensure regulatory compliance and safe daily operations, develop and administer the airport’s Rules, Regulations, and Minimum Standards, and guide staff development and performance benchmarking.

Alex Castillo, C.M., will be responsible for driving revenue growth across key business lines, including concessions, parking, and ground transportation at Ontario International Airport.
Mr. Castillo has a solid background in collaborating with airport representatives, tenants, and stakeholders to enhance the customer experience and uphold airport standards. Most recently, he served as the Airport Operations Manager for Hollywood Burbank Airport, where he managed a team of 23 staff members. While there, he acted as the Operations Project Manager for the design-build of a $1.3 billion replacement passenger terminal. Additionally, Mr. Castillo held the position of Airport Operations Supervisor at San José Mineta International Airport and worked as an Airport Operations Officer at Fresno Yosemite International Airport.
