AusIMM will host the International Mining Geology Conference 2026 on 21–22 April at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, bringing together mining geology professionals, researchers and decision-makers from around the world.
As geology, geography and geopolitics increasingly shape the future of the resources sector, the role of geoscience professionals has never been more critical.
From exploration and resource definition through to mine development and production, geology underpins every step of the minerals value chain. As governments and industry look to capture greater value – whether by moving further into processing or manufacturing – it all starts with a deep understanding of the minerals beneath the surface.
At the same time, the task is becoming more complex. Companies are targeting deeper and more technically challenging deposits in their pursuit of critical and strategic minerals, while mature basins face depletion and new discoveries emerge in regions where mining is either new or carries a complex legacy.
In this environment, forums such as the International Mining Geology Conference play a key role in advancing best practice, encouraging innovation and strengthening geological understanding across the sector.
Daniel Howe, chief geological officer at Northern Star Resources and chair of the International Mining Geology Conference 2026 advisory committee, said the event will highlight the tangible impact of modern mining geology.
“The focus of the International Mining Geology Conference 2026 is to demonstrate how mining geologists create real-world value, through innovation, reconciliation, and practical case studies that show how new tools and technologies are helping set our profession up for the future,” Howe said.
Keynote presenters include:
The conference will also feature a Young Professionals Day on 20 April, with a dedicated program aimed at supporting early career geoscientists to build capability, expand networks and take the next step in their mining careers.
