Name of Client : Aramco

Estimated Budget : $10,000,000,000

Contract Value : $2,440,000,000

Facility Type : Gas Compression

Sector : Gas

Main Contractor : Petrofac

Location : Al Jafurah, Saudi Arabia

Award Date : Q3 2024

BACKGROUND

The Jafurah Gas Terminal will process up to 1.1 billion cu ft per day (Bcfd) of unconventional shale gas, producing sales gas, ethane, natural gas liquids, and condensate.

As the largest known free gas field in Saudi Arabia, Jafurah is central to Aramco’s plan to increase unconventional gas output to 3 Bcfd over the next decade, supporting the kingdom’s energy transition and net-zero ambitions.

With 200 trillion cu ft (tcf) of gas in place, the field will help replace up to 300,000 bpd of domestic oil use at peak production and contribute to generating half of Saudi electricity from gas.

Development will employ advanced 4IR technologies, including IIoT and video analytics, enhancing construction, operations, and safety.

The project will be delivered in phases, with the first in 2025 and full field development reaching 2 Bcfd by 2030.

PROJECT SCOPE

The project scope involves building three gas compression plants, each capable of processing 200 million cu ft per day (cf/d), including six gas compression trains and six propane compressors.

It also covers construction of a 230-kV substation to power the plants, along with the installation of utilities units, piping systems, and safety equipment.

PROJECT STATUS

As of February 2026, Phase 3 of the Jafurah gas field development is expected to be completed by 2030.

PROJECT FINANCE

Aramco is the project client.
