The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) and the Grid Controller of India Limited (GRID-INDIA) have inked a MoU to jointly carry out a research project on hybrid day-ahead and intra-day solar forecasting for large solar parks in India. As part of the initiative, a hybrid forecasting framework will be developed by combining numerical weather prediction models, satellite-based inputs, and real-time All-Sky Imager nowcasting.

The framework will produce high-frequency probabilistic forecasts, including P50 and P90 estimates. These forecasts will cover time horizons ranging from a few minutes to 48 hours, improving the accuracy of short-term power generation predictions and reducing deviation settlement mechanism risks. Furthermore, the initiative will be implemented in collaboration with leading renewable energy developers, who will provide access to large utility-scale solar parks for real-time deployment and validation of the forecasting system.

Earlier in June 2025, NISE released an expression of interest inviting proposals and technical inputs for the operation and maintenance of its solar-powered green hydrogen generation, storage, and refueling station.
