Australian transmission specialist, Timco Transmission Lines, has now been fully merged into Elecnor Australia, consolidating Elecnor’s local transmission construction capabilities as demand for high-voltage grid infrastructure accelerates.
The integration formalises a relationship that has been evolving for several years, with Timco operating under Elecnor ownership and branding across major projects. Timco no longer trades as a standalone entity, with its people, systems and project delivery now embedded within Elecnor Australia’s operations.
Elecnor Australia is the local arm of Spain-based infrastructure group Elecnor, which delivers energy, transmission and transport projects across more than 50 countries. In Australia, the company has become a key contractor on large-scale transmission builds supporting the renewable energy transition.
The combined team is currently active on nation-defining projects such as Project EnergyConnect, the 900 kilometre electricity interconnector linking New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. Elecnor Australia is delivering the New South Wales portion of the project under an engineering, procurement and construction contract for transmission network service provider Transgrid.
Timco’s integration strengthens Elecnor Australia’s in-house expertise across transmission line construction, stringing, energisation and commissioning. These capabilities are increasingly critical as Australia races to connect new renewable generation, storage and Renewable Energy Zones to the grid.
The move reflects a broader trend in the transmission sector, where international contractors are scaling up Australian operations to meet unprecedented infrastructure pipelines driven by state and federal decarbonisation targets.
With grid investment forecast to run into tens of billions of dollars over the coming decade, the consolidation positions Elecnor Australia to deliver complex, multi-jurisdictional projects while maintaining a locally based workforce with deep transmission experience.
For the market, the integration signals growing maturity in Australia’s transmission infrastructure.
