airportBoeing Shanghai Aviation Services, a joint venture between Boeing, Shanghai Airport Authority and China Eastern Airlines, has opened a new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hangar in Shanghai that is being billed as China's largest single-span aviation maintenance facility.
Located at Shanghai Pudong International Airport within the Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the new hangar can accommodate up to four widebody aircraft and two narrowbody aircraft simultaneously, significantly expanding the facility's maintenance capacity.
Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services was established in 2006 and provides base maintenance services for Boeing 787, 777, 767 and 737 families. The company also performs component repair work and aircraft modifications, including passenger-to-freighter conversions for the 737-800BCF.
The company secured base maintenance contracts with Air Premia and Virgin Atlantic between 2024 and 2025, which will see the carriers' widebody aircraft being serviced at the new hangar.
