Shannon Airport has today unveiled its summer 2025 schedule, featuring two new services and a substantial increase of 190,000 seats, 11% ahead of 2024 services.
This summer the airport will operate 36 services to 11 countries, including a brand-new twice weekly service to the Portuguese island of Madeira which celebrated its inaugural flight yesterday, and a new charter service to Palma with TUI, providing even more options for sun-seekers.
This expansion aims to enhance travel options for passengers seeking city escapes and holiday breaks across Europe, the UK, and the USA.
Overall, Shannon Airport will see an 11% increase in summer 2025 services compared to 2024, including 16 extra weekly departures with Ryanair to popular locations like Faro, Malaga, Alicante, Barcelona, Edinburgh, and Porto.
Mary Considine, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, enthused: “We are anticipating a bustling summer with 332 weekly flights on our 36 services, including new routes to Madeira with Ryanair and Palma with TUI.
“The increased frequency on thirteen services, adding 190,000 extra seats, reflects Shannon Airport’s growing popularity as a vital gateway for European, UK, and transatlantic travel. We are committed to providing a seamless experience from the moment passengers arrive.”
The new summer schedule is supported by a comprehensive advertising campaign targeting audiences across Ireland through TV, radio, press, YouTube and social media advertising.
Additionally, an enhanced Shannon Airport mobile app is now available to download on the Apple App Store and Google Play. The App offers real time flight status updates, an augmented reality feature to measure cabin bags, and a pin your car feature to help locate your car in the airport car park on your return.

MIA’s record-breaking growth in passengers, cargo, and construction cements its role as Florida’s top economic powerhouse.

Miami International Airport’s (MIA) economic impact has reached a record $181.4 billion in statewide business revenue and supports 842,703 jobs, reinforcing its role as one of Florida’s most powerful economic drivers. The figures, presented in MIA’s 2024 economic impact study by consulting firm Martin Associates, were unveiled at the World Trade Centre Miami’s annual State of the Ports luncheon.
Together, MIA and PortMiami now generate more than $242.8 billion in economic impact and support nearly 1.2 million jobs across Florida. These milestones were announced by Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, MIA Director and CEO Ralph Cutié, and PortMiami Director and CEO Hydi Webb before an audience of over 500 local business and community leaders.
“That Miami-Dade County’s two economic engines together fuel nearly a quarter-trillion dollars in business revenue and sustain more than a million jobs across Florida is a testament to the extraordinary opportunities they create for our community, our region, and our nation,” said Mayor Levine Cava. “Congratulations to the MIA team for achieving yet another record-breaking milestone — and to both ports for continuing to power our local economy, support great jobs, and drive prosperity for all.”
In 2024, MIA generated $41.2 billion in business revenue and supported 311,291 jobs in Miami-Dade County alone, equivalent to one in four local jobs. Passenger traffic grew by 7% to nearly 56 million travellers, while cargo volumes rose by 9% to three million tons – both record highs.
Statewide, MIA maintained its status as the busiest US airport for international freight and ranked 5th globally. In 2023, MIA handled 90% of Florida’s air trade by value and 40% of the state’s combined air and sea trade. Florida-based air freight at MIA was worth $134.3 billion, supporting 531,412 jobs across the state.
MIA’s $9 billion Future-Ready Modernisation in Action Plan is reshaping the airport with projects like the Ibis Garage, opening December 2025, and the 300,000-square-foot Concourse K, due in 2029. The plan generated $252 million in business revenue and 2,865 local construction jobs in the past year.
The study also showed MIA’s key role in the cruise sector, with 766,662 passengers using the airport en route to cruises, mostly through PortMiami, which hosted a record 8.2 million passengers in 2024.

MAG served 65 million passengers, expanded routes, and unveiled major investment plans to boost regional economies and sustainability across its airports.
MAG has reported a record year, serving 65 million passengers for the first time in its history for the year ending 31 March. The Group, which owns and operates Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands Airports, as well as travel services business CAVU, posted revenues of £1.3 billion, up 8.4% on the previous year. Adjusted EBITDA rose 12.5% to £570.4 million, while operating profit increased 9.8% to £263.2 million.
Growth was driven by new routes and increased frequencies from major airlines including easyJet, Ryanair, Jet2.com and TUI. Notably, India’s largest airline, IndiGo, began its first European service from Manchester to Mumbai during the period. CAVU, MAG’s digital travel services business, grew revenues nearly 14%, now operating at 308 airports in 48 countries.
MAG continued its major infrastructure investment, nearing completion of the 10-year Manchester Airport Transformation Programme later this year. The Group plans to invest a further £2.5 billion across its airports over the next five years, including £1.1 billion at London Stansted announced at the Government’s International Investment Summit in October.
MAG CEO Ken O’Toole said, “This year’s record performance is a testament to the strength of our business and the dedication of our people. With more passengers choosing our airports than ever before, MAG continues to play a vital role in connecting the UK to the world.” He added, “Our airports are engines of growth for the regions they serve. Through continued investment, we’re creating jobs, supporting local economies, and enabling trade and tourism across the North, South and Midlands.”
O’Toole also highlighted MAG’s commitment to sustainability: “Our new five-year Sustainability Strategy builds on two decades of progress and reinforces our commitment to reducing emissions, creating opportunities, and supporting the communities we serve.”
Customer experience remained strong with 98.9% of passengers passing through security in 15 minutes or less across all three airports.

Working together for a brighter future
As the Group continued to work towards its target of net zero carbon operations by 2038, its commitment to sustainability was once again independently recognised. In 2025, MAG was names a Financial Times European Climate Leader for the fifth time, as well as retaining its five-star GRESB rating. It also received a ‘gold standard’ award by EcoVadis, placing MAG in the top 5% of rated businesses.
Across the reporting period, MAG welcomed updates from UK Government about the use and domestic production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), including that the UK’s SAF Mandate, and the creation of a Revenue Certainty Mechanism (RCM) for domestic SAF. The creation of an RCM, which has now been passed into law, will assist the UK in realising the potential of a domestic SAF industry, which will ensure that the cost of flying remains accessible for passengers, while creating tens of thousands of green jobs in the UK.
In May, MAG launched its new five-year Sustainability Strategy ‘Creating a sustainable future for all’. The new Strategy builds on the more than two decades progress and focus that has placed sustainability at the core of how MAG operates. The Strategy has two main focus areas: Protecting our Environment and Community at our Core, with a number of targets in place, including reducing scope 1&2 market-based emissions by 48%, supporting 70,000 young people through education programmes, and donating £1.5m to local communities, all by 2030. Aena Commits To €351M Airport Investment. The funding is in addition to Aena’s current five-year investment plan (known as DORA II, Airport Regulation Document 2022–2026).
Key projects at airports such as Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Valencia, Bilbao, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Ibiza, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Menorca, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna and Tenerife Sur will benefit from the additional cash injection.
One of the main allocations (€84m) will go towards the ongoing remodelling of the terminal area at Palma de Mallorca Airport, in order to shorten the timeline for work to complete.
Improvements to passenger service quality and security processes through the automation of screening using EDSCB (Explosive Detection System for Cabin Baggage) equipment, which allows liquids and electronic devices to remain inside hand luggage, and ATRS (Automatic Tray Return System), will require an additional €86m beyond what was planned under DORA II.
Cybersecurity investments will total €62m and €65 will go to digitalisation and automation of processes, with a further €7m for the implementation of remote-controlled boarding bridges.
AENA said that for the next investment period, DORA III (2027–2031), it is finalising its investment proposal for all Spanish airports, which it will put to consultation with the airlines, and which will represent “the largest wave of airport investment in recent decades”.

Aena will bring forward key infrastructure, safety, and digital upgrades across major Spanish airports before DORA III begins.
On 1 July 2025, Spain’s Council of Ministers approved an additional €351 million investment in Spanish airports, beyond the scope of the current Airport Regulation Document for 2022–2026 (DORA II). These regulated investments, which could not have been foreseen when DORA II was approved, aim to bring forward actions that would otherwise be scheduled for the next regulatory period, DORA III (2027–2031).
The new funding will help adapt airport infrastructure to updated regulatory requirements, strengthen safety and cybersecurity, improve passenger experience, and reduce the operational impact of terminal upgrades. These improvements are seen as essential and beneficial across the Spanish airport network, with work progressing on projects at airports including Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández (ALC), Valencia (VLC), Bilbao (BIO), César Manrique-Lanzarote (ACE), Ibiza (IBZ), Málaga-Costa del Sol (AGP), Menorca (MAH), Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna (TFN), Tenerife Sur (TFS).
One of the most significant allocations is €84 million towards accelerating the ongoing terminal area remodelling at Palma de Mallorca Airport. A further €86 million will fund upgrades in passenger screening systems, including EDSCB (Explosive Detection System for Cabin Baggage), which allows liquids and electronics to remain in hand luggage, and ATRS (Automatic Tray Return System).
An additional €15 million will be invested in operational and physical safety measures. Cybersecurity, in response to new regulatory requirements around information security risks, will receive €62 million.
Digitalisation and automation of airport processes will be enhanced with €65 million, while €7 million will support the rollout of remote-controlled boarding bridges. Aena will also advance €13 million for the technical design of terminal expansions planned for DORA III.
To support airport decarbonisation, €13 million will go towards process electrification, and €6 million will be used to meet the obligations of Royal Decree 487/2022 on legionella prevention.
Looking ahead, Aena is finalising its DORA III investment proposal for 2027–2031. This will be submitted for consultation with airlines and is expected to represent “the largest wave of investment in recent decades.”

Tucson Airport Authority Contributes $10.9 Billion In Annual Economic Impact To Southern ArizonaTucson, Arizona – Tucson International Airport (TUS) and Ryan Airfield (RYN), operated by the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA), contribute $10.9 billion in annual economic impact to southern Arizona supporting 42,012 jobs paying $2.9 billion in wages. Those figures are part of a new economic study conducted by Elliott D. Pollack & Company for the TAA.
The study highlights the important role the airports play in attracting and retaining high quality jobs and economic growth in the region. TUS, which spans over 8,400 acres accounts for vast impacts on the business enterprises of Southern Arizona.

Apollo Finalises $750M Financing For India’S Mumbai International AirportAsset manager Apollo has finalised a $750m investment-grade financing deal for India’s Mumbai International Airport (MIAL), a subsidiary of Adani Airports Holdings (AAHL).

The four-year senior secured notes will primarily refinance MIAL’s existing debt, enhancing financial flexibility to support operational improvements, modernisation efforts, and sustainability projects.
The financing structure also provides up to $250m in additional funds to advance capital investments and expand capacity.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), India’s second-largest airport, is one of eight airports operated by AAHL, a division of the Adani Group focused on airport infrastructure development.
MIAL operates through a public-private partnership, with AAHL holding a 74% stake and the Airports Authority of India owning the remaining 26%.

In June 2024, India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) launched an investigation into a near-miss incident at CSMIA, where an Indigo plane landed just behind an Air India aircraft.
The DGCA also announced that the air traffic control (ATC) staff involved in the incident have been removed from their shifts at the airport.

Indy Airport Officially Breaks Ground On New $205.8 Million HotelOfficials mark major milestone in development of new Westin hotel
“The original plans for the Midfield Terminal complex included a terminal-connected hotel, and through the years we’ve proceeded with careful and strategic planning to ensure the right build at the right time to increase the value of the airport to the public and increase our contribution to the Central Indiana economic landscape,” said Mario Rodriguez, IAA executive director.
City officials and community leaders joined Rodriguez and IAA Board President Barbara Glass in the ceremonial shovel event, signifying the hotel development is officially underway. Approximately 200 guests from throughout the city attended the event and received ceremonial vials of dirt to mark the occasion. Rodriguez said the new hotel will serve as “the front door to the front door,” welcoming travelers from around the globe to the Best Airport in North America — and surrounding them with the world-class customer experience the Indy airport is known for.
Glass said that in addition to the elegance and grandeur the hotel will add to the terminal campus, it will also deliver an economic impact.
“The hotel will help cement the Indy airport’s reputation as ‘The Best Airport in North America’ for decades to come,” said Glass. “This hotel will not only be an iconic addition to the airport, but it’s the biggest investment directly benefiting the traveling public since the new terminal itself was built, and it will also be a revenue and job generator for Indianapolis.”
In February, the IAA board approved the project and respective contracts, setting the project budget at $205.8 million and ratifying the project for bond funding. Over the past four years, the IAA has gone through iterations of financial analysis and then fully designed the hotel to have a detailed budget to design, build, inspect, furnish and operate the hotel.
Elegant design with customer-experience top of mind
The Westin Indianapolis Airport hotel will feature 253 guest rooms, along with a full-service restaurant, serving three meals per day, a fitness center, a 7th-floor bar and lounge area, an approximate 10,000 square-foot meeting space, a pedestrian passage through the hotel to the airport garage, and hotel-specific parking with valet option. Hotel guests who also join the Marriott Bonvoy program, which is a free-to-join loyalty program, can experience benefits like free Wi-Fi, discounted rates, and the ability to earn points toward free nights and other rewards.
With approximately one-third of passengers flying out of the Indy airport before 9 a.m. and coming off record-breaking passenger traffic, this new hotel will give weary travelers a convenient overnight option to save time before their early morning flight, with elevated amenities compared to a 45-minute to an hour drive.
Construction Underway
Construction of the new hotel has begun. Currently, the construction barricade fencing is transformed into a playful art exhibit, thanks to the creative talents of Greenfield artist and Red Nose Studio founder Chris Sickels. Key milestones in the coming weeks also include rerouting the pedestrian pathways from the Park & Walk and employee parking lots.
CSO, Inc., developed the construction drawings for the hotel, which included architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and interior design services. Shiel Sexton Company, Inc., developed the construction program and guaranteed maximum price. Wischermann Partners, Inc. is the hotel operator and assisted CSO’s design team with overall programming of the hotel.
“We are looking forward to becoming an integral part of the world-class Indianapolis airport travel experience,” said Paul Wischermann, president and chief executive officer of Wischermann Partners. “We both share a relentless commitment to excellence, human connection and guest experience.”
The IAA anticipates the new Westin Indianapolis Airport hotel will be completed in December 2027.

Miami International Airport begins £475m terminal expansion and installs 41 wheelchair lifts as part of its £7.1bn modernisation strategy.

The Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners has approved the construction of Concourse K at Miami International Airport (MIA), a $600.6 million infrastructure expansion project that marks a major milestone in the airport’s $9 billion Future-Ready Modernisation in Action plan.
This transformative expansion will deliver six new contact gates, a ground support equipment maintenance facility, modernised baggage handling systems, and critical airfield upgrades. It’s designed to help MIA accommodate 77 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo by 2040.
Planned features include:
Concourse K will be MIA’s first terminal expansion since 2007. With nearly 56 million passengers and over 3 million US tonnes of freight handled in 2024, the project will significantly boost capacity and efficiency while creating thousands of jobs.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava stated:
“The launch of Concourse K will not only increase capacity and create thousands of new jobs but also reinforce MIA’s role as a premier Global Gateway… we are making visionary, future-ready investments that will build a stronger, more vibrant airport—one that uplifts our community, welcomes the world, and powers our economy into the future.”
Construction is set to begin this summer, with completion scheduled for spring 2029. Lemartec-NV2A JV, LLC will lead construction, with Perez & Perez Architects Planners, Inc. as lead architect.
In tandem, MIA will begin installing 41 jet bridge-mounted wheelchair lifts across all concourses. Each will receive a minimum of three lifts, with newer jet bridges prioritised in this phase. Additional installations are planned for the future.
“Our modernisation efforts are designed with people at the centre… An airport that works for everyone is an airport that truly leads,” added Mayor Levine Cava.
The wheelchair lifts are part of the broader M.I.A. Plan, which also includes upgraded security checkpoints, modern terminals, expanded gate capacity, and innovations in accessibility, sustainability, and passenger experience.

Key West International Airport unveils Concourse A, enhancing passenger experience and storm resilience amid record growth and expanded airline services.

Key West International Airport (EYW) has celebrated a major milestone in its $130 million modernisation with the grand opening of Concourse A. Spanning 48,802 square feet, the facility has been under construction since late 2022.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the occasion, attended by Monroe County Commissioners, airport staff, and consultants from McFarland Johnson and Mead & Hunt.
Monroe County Mayor Jim Scholl said: “The Key West International Airport Concourse A transformation into the 21st century is an amazing upgrade for arriving and departing passengers… All who pass through this facility will be in awe of the results.”
The project prioritises environmental, social, and economic impact. Designed for resilience, the concourse is built 14.5 feet above ground level, with reinforced structural columns and a 27-foot-high glass curtain wall featuring 446 impact-resistant panels rated for 200 mph winds. Electrochromic smart glass adjusts to sunlight, while bird-safe glazing, developed in collaboration with wildlife organisations, prevents avian collisions.
John Mafera of McFarland Johnson noted: “Reimagining the Key West Airport required us to focus on airport efficiencies and delivering a greatly improved customer experience while also addressing environmental impacts, long-term sustainability, and hurricane standards.”
Executive Director of Airports Richard Strickland praised the work: “Having McFarland Johnson as our lead consultant… has resulted in an outstanding new facility at Key West International Airport, one that will last well into the future.”
Phase two is now underway, including a pedestrian bridge, expanded baggage claim and arrivals area, a new security checkpoint, and more, with completion due summer 2026.
Passenger numbers have surged at Key West, with 1.5 million served in 2024. Airlines now operating include American, Delta, United, JetBlue, Allegiant, Silver, and new addition Breeze Airways, offering nonstop flights to over 20 US cities.

Us Transportation Secretary Announces $279 Million In Airport Improvement GrantsUS Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy has announced a series of 180 new infrastructure grants for projects across the country.
The grants, which amount to more than 3.2 billion USD, will form part of a strategy to motion a portion of projects inherited from the previous government, with Secretary Duffy and the Department of Transportation having approved a total of 329 grants since taking office.
America is building again.
At the Department of Transportation, that means getting back to basics: Building More, Building Efficiently and Building Quickly.
Projects set to benefit from the grants include Alabama’s I-10 Bridge, which will receive 550 million USD for its Mobile River bridge and Bayway multimodal project, allowing for the replacement of the two existing Bayway Bridges.
The announcement also lists several grants intended for the funding of a number of airport programmes to be delivered by the Federal Aviation Administration (totalling 279 million USD), including:
Elsewhere, the grants include 497.4 million USD in funding for a number of bus programmes, 1.4 billion USD for the Federal Highway Administration and 282.4 million for the Federal Railroad Administration.

New $270M Cargo Handling Centre Opens At Jfk Airport In UsThe Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, along with Realterm and Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), has inaugurated a $270m consolidated cargo handling centre at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City, US.
This facility, the first new cargo centre at JFK in 25 years, consolidates operations from four separate cargo zones into one modern location, aiming to reduce congestion and improve operational efficiency.

The JFK air cargo sector is crucial to the economy, supporting more than 93,000 jobs and generating $11.4bn per year in economic activity.
In 2024, JFK handled 1.67 million tonnes of cargo, marking a 5% increase from the previous year.
Operated by WFS, the new centre is expected to enhance JFK’s status as a key hub for global trade, particularly for high-value cargo such as pharmaceuticals and electronics.
Port Authority chairman Kevin O’Toole said: “We are in the midst of historic overhauls across all of our airports, and this new cargo centre is yet more proof of the transformation that is underway.

“This new consolidated cargo centre reduces truck congestion, lowers emissions and creates good-paying jobs, all while supporting the industries that power the region and the nation.”
Spanning 350,000ft² and replacing two older facilities, the new centre is part of the Port Authority’s wider redevelopment plans for the airport’s north cargo area.
It accommodates future cargo growth while improving logistics and freeing up land for development.
Innovative features of the centre include an advanced truck dock management system that optimises the flow of goods, reducing wait times for truck drivers and minimising congestion.
The facility also includes dedicated cooler space for temperature-sensitive goods and emphasises sustainability with electric forklifts and vehicle chargers.
The new centre is projected to generate 100 permanent jobs, prioritising hiring from the surrounding community.
WFS Americas Gateway Services CEO Mike Simpson said: “This new facility marks a new era for WFS and air cargo at one of the main gateways to the US.
“This cutting-edge facility reflects our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence in our drive to serve customers better.”

Avialliance Announces £350 Million Investment In Ags AirportsAviAlliance has announced new plans to invest 350 million GBP in both the growth and decarbonisation of AGS Airports over the next five years.
The announcement, which comes after the operator’s recent acquisition of the group comprising Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports, will see significant projects initiated to aid in the facilitation of AGS’ accelerated growth.
Among plans announced, AviAlliance has stated it will begin a major transformation of Glasgow Airport’s main terminal building, as well as provide funding for the expansion of airfield infrastructure and energy efficiency initiatives at the airport.
Southampton Airport will undergo a number of redevelopment works within its terminal building whilst Aberdeen Airport will see similar levels of investment in its airfield infrastructure.
The programme itself aligns with the UK Government’s industrial strategy to attract investment within the country, as well as supporting the Scottish Government’s ambition to develop both the connectivity and quality of Scottish exports.
AGS plays a critical role in driving economic and social prosperity across Scotland and the UK. We have ambitious plans for the long-term, sustainable growth of our airports including the strengthening of our connectivity which underpins the success of the regions we serve.
This significant investment will not only enhance the fabric of our airports, it will enhance the role they currently play in facilitating trade and tourism, and, importantly in generating meaningful employment across the country.
In addition to the new investment plans, AviAlliance also named Charles Hammond OBE as the new Chair of AGS following his recent step down as Chief Executive of Forth Ports in 2023.
It is an absolute privilege to have been appointed Chair of AGS. I know Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports very well and I am also well aware of the critical role they play as drivers of regional economic growth across the UK.
With the £350 million investment from our new shareholders now confirmed, I am relishing the opportunity of working with the AGS board, Kam and his executive team, to ensure AGS can play an even greater role in supporting our regions to boost trade and tourism.
