New study details PSP’s role in visitor spending, tax revenue, and job creation — with more growth on the way

Palm Springs, CA — A new economic study confirms what many in the Coachella Valley already know: Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is not just a vital gateway to our desert destination — it’s a crucial economic powerhouse fueling growth across the region.

According to the 2025 Economic Impact Study released this week, PSP contributed $2.5 billion in total economic output and supported 18,377 jobs in Fiscal Year 2024, making it one of the region’s most impactful contributors to growth.

The report, commissioned by the airport, also found that PSP generated $864 million in wages paid, $1.5 billion in value added (GDP), and $382 million in tax revenue across local, county, state, and federal governments — all while continuing its record-breaking passenger growth streak.

“This study demonstrates how deeply PSP is woven into the economic fabric of our community,” said Harry Barrett, Jr., Executive Director of Aviation. “From creating jobs and supporting small businesses to bringing visitors who sustain our hospitality industry, the airport powers opportunity for thousands of people every single day.”

“As we plan for the Coachella Valley’s future, this report makes it clear that PSP is a cornerstone of long-term economic growth,” said Palm Springs Mayor Ron deHarte. “It’s not just about travel — it’s about jobs, investment, and opportunity. The airport’s continued growth is helping shape a stronger, more connected region — and that’s something we can all get behind.”

What the Study Reveals

Much of PSP’s impact comes from the visitors who arrive here — supporting jobs in hotels, restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions throughout the valley. In fact, 61% of all jobs supported by the airport are tied to visitor activity.

Building for the Future: What’s Ahead for PSP

With record-breaking passenger numbers and demand on the rise, PSP will move forward over the next decade with major improvements —including a new concourse, a Federal Inspection Station to expand international air service, and a rental car center to meet the needs of the future.

According to the study, over the next 10 years these improvements will:

An Airport That Works for the Valley

The study emphasizes PSP’s deep local impact. Coachella Valley cities receive the majority share of the airport’s economic benefit. Nearly every dollar spent at PSP circulates back into the local economy — supporting public services, infrastructure, and thousands of workers across tourism, hospitality, and retail.

Why It Matters Now

As the region plans for future growth, PSP’s role has never been more vital. Ongoing improvements will help the airport keep pace with demand while continuing to deliver economic returns and a world-class experience to travelers and residents alike.
