factoryNextStar Energy has officially opened its battery factory in Windsor, Canada. The plant was built as part of a joint venture between LG Energy Solution (LGES) and Stellantis, announced in March 2022. However, shortly before the opening, the ownership structure of the project changed. In February 2026, LGES announced that it would take full control of NextStar Energy.
Manufacturing at the site had already ramped up prior to the opening. Battery module production began in October 2024, and the manufacturing of electrodes and battery cells started in November 2025. In February 2026, the company announced the production of its millionth battery cell. The facility covers approximately 4.23 million square feet of production space. According to the company, the equivalent to approximately 3.69 billion US dollars have been invested in the project. NextStar Energy currently employs around 1,300 people. In the long term, the company plans to create up to 2,500 direct jobs.
NextStar Energy does not exclusively focus its production on electric vehicles. The company also produces battery cells intended for energy storage systems. These systems are to support energy infrastructure, data centers, and utility grids.
