Fenix Resources has secured the regulatory and environmental approvals needed to develop its new Beebyn-W10 iron ore mine in Western Australia’s Mid-West, paving the way for production to begin this quarter, with first ore shipments scheduled for the December quarter.

Located immediately adjacent to the existing Beebyn-W11 operation, Beebyn-W10 will form part of the newly established Beebyn Hub within the company’s Weld Range iron ore project.

Fenix executive chairman John Welborn said the approvals marked a significant step in the company’s growth strategy, as it works towards its target of producing up to six million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) by FY28.

“The establishment of the Beebyn Hub is critical for the continued ramp-up of our Weld Range Iron Ore Project,” he said.

“The transformation promised in our 3-Year Production Plan is now well underway. Having secured the exclusive thirty year right to mine the high-quality hematite iron ore in the Weld Range, we are now systematically developing the world-class project potential of the region.”

Welborn said consolidating operations into the Beebyn Hub would improve efficiency as Fenix transitions away from operating multiple remote mine sites.

“The Beebyn Hub is now the core of our Weld Range operations and provides the platform for the delivery of our 3-Year Production Plan ramp up to six Mtpa by FY28 as well as the base for our longer-term expansion to 10 Mtpa.

“The commencement of mining at the Beebyn-W10 mine, immediately adjacent to our existing mine at Beebyn-W11, and the establishment of the Beebyn Hub infrastructure, is expected to generate significant economies of scale benefits to Fenix. Moving from the operation of three separate remote iron ore mining operations to one regional mining hub will simplify our supply chain, improve product strategies, and centralise our workforce.”

The company has also secured consent from the Wajarri Yamaji People to commence mining under the Cultural Heritage Agreement and is progressing discussions on a Deed of Covenant for the new deposit.

Beyond its three-year production plan, Fenix is progressing a definitive feasibility study for the broader Weld Range project, which is due for completion by the end of 2026 and is expected to support a longer-term expansion to approximately 10 Mtpa.
