oil-gas(WO) — The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) assessed more than $1.1 million in enforcement penalties against operators and businesses during its latest open meeting, continuing the agency's oversight of the state's oil and gas industry and intrastate pipeline systems.
Commissioners approved a total of $1,111,897 in fines through a combination of default and agreed orders. Default orders, issued to operators that failed to appear at enforcement proceedings, accounted for $509,905 in penalties. Agreed orders, which require operators to address compliance issues while resolving enforcement actions, totaled $601,992.
The RRC serves as the primary regulator for Texas oil and gas operations, including drilling, production and intrastate pipeline safety. The enforcement actions were approved as part of the agency's regular compliance and oversight activities.
Unless timely motions for rehearing are filed, the enforcement decisions will become final under the Commission's procedures.
