As battery use continues to grow across consumer products, micromobility devices, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems, the National Fire Protection Association
®
(NFPA
®
) is developing
NFPA 800,
Battery Safety Code (PS)
, a groundbreaking new code designed to address evolving safety challenges associated with batteries.
As part of the standards development process, NFPA is inviting stakeholders and the public to participate in the public comment period, open through January 29, 2026. This is an opportunity to review the preliminary draft and provide input that will help shape the future of battery safety. Comments can be submitted online at

by clicking on the “Submit Public Input Online” icon.
Approved for development by the NFPA Standards Council in December 2024, NFPA 800 is
designed to address the entire lifecycle of a battery
, covering every stage from manufacturing and installation to use, storage, transport, and disposal.
