powerplantCleanPeak Energy has announced it will acquire 100 per cent of Sustainable Energy Infrastructure (SEI).
The deal brings a portfolio of sub-five megawatt (MW) solar and battery assets into CleanPeak’s platform, adding 71 megawatts alternating current (MWac) of solar capacity across 16 sites and 42 MW of battery energy storage systems (BESS) across 11 sites. The assets are located across New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, with several sites integrating solar generation and battery storage.
For CleanPeak, the acquisition aligns with its strategy to scale its in-front-of-the-meter solar and storage portfolio over the next three to five years. The company continues to target growth in distributed energy solutions that can be deployed close to load, particularly for commercial and industrial customers.
Philip Graham, Chief Executive Officer at SEI, explains that the company’s assets will strengthen CleanPeak’s ability to deliver flexible and cost-effective renewable energy solutions.
“SEI brings together a high-quality portfolio of distributed solar and battery assets that align with our focus on building a smarter and more resilient energy system,” Graham says.
The integration is expected to also enhance CleanPeak’s operational scale across the National Electricity Market (NEM), while also supporting its retail business through improved energy supply and risk management.
Furthermore, CleanPeak’s existing capability in battery development and optimisation will a play a key role in extracting further value from SEI’s portfolio. This includes opportunities to expand storage capacity and improve the performance of co-located solar and battery systems.
The acquisition reflects a broader shift in Australia’s energy transition, where smaller, distributed assets are playing a growing role alongside utility-scale projects. These systems can offer faster deployment timelines, reduce network constraints and support local energy resilience.
