Power PlantContourGlobal has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Tesla for Project Sterling in Arizona. The project features a 450 MWac solar PV and 360 MW/1.4 GWh of four-hour duration battery energy storage system. The project is expected to generate more than 1.1 TWh of electricity annually. The agreement covers approximately 1 TWh of electricity annually, representing about 90 per cent of the project’s output.
Moreover, the project was acquired in December 2024. Construction activities for the project commenced in 2025, with on-site work scheduled later in 2026 while commercial operations are targeted for 2028. The project will also connect to Arizona’s WAPA grid with firm transmission rights into California’s CAISO market.
In June 2026, ContourGlobal entered the UK market with the acquisition of 500 MW/2,000 MWh Wallace BESS from a consortium of sellers including New Energy Partnership Limited. It is a four-hour-duration BESS. The project is expected to participate in the upcoming UK Capacity Market auction. The project also benefits from a full planning consent, a secured land option, and allocated Gate 2 status under the UK grid connection reform process.
