powerplantIn a major development for India’s green hydrogen ambitions, JK Srivastava Hynfra (JKSH) — a joint venture between Poland’s Hynfra and the JK Srivastava Group — has signed a memorandum of understanding with NREDCAP, the renewable energy development agency of Andhra Pradesh. The MoU paves the way for a massive ₹35,000 crore ($4 billion) investment to establish a green ammonia production facility near Visakhapatnam.
The project will be powered entirely by 3 GW of solar and wind energy, supplemented with battery storage and smart energy management systems. It is expected to produce up to 1 million metric tonnes per year (MMtpy) of green ammonia, with commercial operations projected to begin by early 2029.
A significant portion of the green ammonia output will be exported to Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, where it will be used in co-firing applications to decarbonize coal-based power plants. The remaining volumes will serve India’s domestic needs in fertilizer production, clean power, transportation, and digital infrastructure.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Dr. J.K. Srivastava, Chairman and Managing Director of JKSH. Srivastava emphasized the project’s scalability and potential to position India as a key player in global green fuel supply chains.
Tomoho Umeda, President of Hynfra and a board member of JKSH, noted that the initiative brings together legacy chemical expertise and India’s clean energy momentum, aiming to meet stringent international standards, including RFNBO certification.
The facility will also act as a cornerstone for Andhra Pradesh’s Green Hydrogen Valley, envisioned as a strategic export and innovation hub for renewable hydrogen and its derivatives.
