powerplantThe government-owned Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commissioned a new 300 MVA, 330/132 kV power transformer at the 330/132/33 kV Katampe transmission substation in Abuja to strengthen electricity (FCT).
Commissioned on May 24, 2026, the transformer increases the installed capacity of the Katampe substation from 450 MVA to 750 MVA. The expansion is expected to enable Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to off-take additional bulk power for distribution to residential, commercial and industrial consumers across Abuja and neighbouring satellite communities. The project forms part of efforts to address rising electricity demand driven by rapid urbanisation and increasing commercial activities in districts such as Katampe, Jahi, Gwarinpa, and Kubwa.
