A study by the Imal Initiative for Climate and Development, authored by Anas Hmimad and Rachid Ennassiri, assessed Morocco’s decentralized renewable energy systems (DERS) across 12 regions, using rooftop solar as the main focus. The researchers modeled three deployment scenarios –optimistic, median, and pessimistic – estimating power output, capacity, emissions avoided, and market value.
In the optimistic scenario, DERS could generate 66.8 TWh from 28.58 GW of installed PV capacity, cutting 48.19 million tons of CO₂. The median case projects 17.15 GW and 40.1 TWh, with 28.91 million tons of CO₂ avoided. Even the pessimistic scenario would deliver 8.57 GW and 20.05 TWh.
The report links this distributed potential to Morocco’s wider low-carbon transition, which expects 2.5 million electric vehicles by 2035. Their combined battery capacity of 39,420 GWh could cover up to 98% of EV charging needs in the optimistic case.
Hmimad and Ennassiri urged authorities to implement Law 82-21 on self-generation by 2026, publish the necessary decrees for bidirectional metering and compensation, and invest in smart grids. They also proposed creating a National Fund for the Integration of Energy Resources for Depletion to support small-scale investors and households.

Loom Solar showcased its TOPCon and HJT solar modules, rated up to 730 W, at the recent Renewable Energy India (REI) 2025 trade show. The products are approved under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
The company also presented battery energy storage systems (BESS) ranging from 1 kWh to 5 MWh and made-in-India PV inverters in both on-grid and hybrid variants from 3 kW to 50 kW. It said its lithium BESS products are designed to replace diesel generators and enhance grid stability during peak load conditions.
Separately, Loom Solar announced plans to set up a 1.2 GW solar module factory in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The facility will be equipped for TOPCon and HJT technologies.

The company aims to supply its high-efficiency modules, inverters, and storage systems for large-scale projects under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) Scheme, targeting installations of 1 MW and above.
Loom Solar is also seeking partnerships with public sector entities including railways, telecom operators, and power distribution companies (DISCOMs), which are driving much of India’s solar deployment.
It said this strategic focus underscores its commitment to supporting national clean energy goals and industrial-scale implementation.

Us Installed Nearly 26 Gw Of New Generating Capacity From January To AugustThe report shows momentum for renewables continuing, despite the federal government’s emphasis on fossil fuels and nuclear. FERC lists 136 GW of “high probability additions” through August 2028, with renewables, led by solar and followed by wind, accounting for nearly 84%. Natural gas accounts for about 15% of high probability additions.
"Notwithstanding impediments created by the Trump Administration and the Republican-controlled Congress, solar and wind continue to add more generating capacity than fossil fuels and nuclear power," the Sun Day Campaign's executive director Ken Bossong said in a statement. "And FERC foresees renewable energy’s role expanding in the next three years while the shares provided by coal, oil, natural gas, and nuclear all contract."
Large renewable projects that began operating in August include Hecate Energy’s 517-MW Outpost solar and storage project in Webb County, Texas; Gibson Solar’s 280-MW project in Gibson County, Indiana; and expansions at the Roadrunner Crossing Wind Farm in Eastland County, Texas, totaling 254 MW.
While solar and wind made up most of the new generation added in August, a number of smaller gas generators also came online that month, totaling 888 MW. They include: Southern Indiana Gas & Electric Co’s 248-MW A.B. Brown expansion project in Posey County, Indiana; Basin Electric Power Coop’s 245-MW Pioneer Generation Station expansion in Williams County, North Dakota; and Lower Colorado River Authority’s 188-MW Maxwell Peaker Plant in Caldwell County, Texas.

Uk Renewable Power Capacity To Reach 172.7 Gw By 2035, Forecasts GlobaldataThe UK is scaling up renewable energy deployment at an accelerated pace, driven by strong policy support, large scale offshore wind expansion, and sustained investment in solar photovoltaics (PV) and biopower.
The country’s cumulative renewable power capacity is forecast to reach 172.7 GW by 2035, up from 61 GW in 2024 and registering a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.9% during 2024 – 2035, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
GlobalData’s latest report, ‘United Kingdom (UK) Power Market Trends and Analysis by Capacity, Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Regulations, Key Players and Forecast to 2035,’ reveals that wind power will remain the dominant growth driver of the country’s renewable mix. Offshore wind capacity is expected to surge to nearly 58.3 GW by 2035 from 15.8 GW in 2024, supported by the Clean Power 2030 mission, successive Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction rounds, and large scale grid expansion projects across the North Sea. The UK’s offshore wind pipeline is among the largest globally, strengthened by floating offshore wind projects, port infrastructure investment, and manufacturing localisation efforts in regions such as Teesside, Humber, and Scotland.
Onshore wind in the UK will also expand strongly from 16.2 GW in 2024 to 31.7 GW in 2035, aided by the government’s decision to lift previous planning restrictions and accelerate approvals for repowering and hybridisation. Solar PV is projected to rise from 20.2 GW in 2024 to 68.4 GW in 2035, supported by CfD backed utility scale projects, commercial rooftop deployment, and community energy initiatives. Biopower will continue to play a stabilising role, increasing from 8.4 GW to 13.8 GW, leveraging the UK’s circular economy initiatives and sustainable waste to energy policies.
Mohammed Ziauddin, Power Analyst at GlobalData, commented: “The UK’s clean energy growth is being powered by a robust framework that includes the CfD mechanism, the Clean Power 2030 mission, and the Net Zero Strategy, all providing long term policy stability and investment certainty. Infrastructure programmes such as National Grid’s £35 billion (US$44.4 billion) transmission upgrade plan and the Eastern Green Links offshore superhighway are further enabling large scale renewable integration and regional balancing.”
The report highlights that while nuclear capacity growth is set to slow in the near term, declining from 5.9 GW in 2024 to around 4.1 GW by 2035, thermal gas will continue to play a crucial role in ensuring system reliability and balancing renewable generation. Gas-fired plants will remain an integral part of peak demand management and supply security as storage and hydrogen capacity gradually expand.
Government initiatives such as the £14.2 billion (US$19.1 billion) Sizewell C investment and the Great British Nuclear programme for small modular reactors (SMRs) will sustain low carbon baseload generation and complement the rapid growth of renewables.
Mohammed Ziauddin concluded: “Offshore wind will be the centrepiece of the UK’s clean energy expansion, supported by record investment, policy stability, and grid modernisation. With solar, onshore wind, and biopower contributing to diversification, the UK is well positioned to maintain momentum towards a low carbon power system and achieve its 2050 net zero goal.”

Boviet Solar Begins Interior Construction On 3 Gw Pv Cell Manufacturing Facility In North CarolinaBoviet Solar Technology Co. Ltd., a leading solar energy technology company specializing in advanced monocrystalline PV cells and premium Gamma Series™ Monofacial and Vega Series™ Bifacial PV modules, announced that it has begun interior construction on its 3.0 GW PV cell manufacturing facility in Greenville, Pitt County, North Carolina. This milestone follows the completion of exterior walls and roofing, marking significant progress in Boviet Solar’s U.S. manufacturing expansion and reinforcing its commitment to strengthening domestic solar production.
Construction of the facility began in January 2025 and has remained on schedule through the completion of the building’s exterior. Uk Solar Capacity Hits 20 GwThe United Kingdom has broken the 20 GW barrier for deployed solar capacity, according to the latest government figures, having added 1.4 GW since the start of 2025 including 106 MW in September.
Solar capacity figures from the UK Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) are provisional and subject to revision as new data is added, but show growth of at least 1.9 GW in a 12-month period, an increase of 10.7%.
New capacity in 2025 includes the inauguration of the 373 MW Cleve Hill solar farm in July, the largest UK solar plant to date. Cleve Hill is one of 15 solar farms with a Contract for Difference (CfD) to come online in 2025, from a total of 17 supported by the government-backed scheme to date.
Domestic installations still make up the lion’s share of PV installations, according to DESNZ. However, at least 40% of capacity is from ground-mounted or standalone solar installations. When “unaccredited” capacity is assessed, the government estimates ground-mount solar actually accounts for roughly 58% of total capacity. Around 520 MW of newly installed capacity recorded in the first three quarters of 2025 were from plants of 5 MW or greater.
The number of large-scale PV plants is set to grow further, following a flurry of planning consent orders granted by the UK government under its nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIP) process. These include the recently approved 500 MW Tillbridge Solar Project, which joins a cluster of proposed utility-scale solar developments in Lincolnshire, England.
More utility-scale projects will need to come online quickly for the UK government to reach its target of at least 45 GW of deployed solar capacity by the end of 2030. Success will likely depend on how much capacity is procured in the next two CfD allocation rounds, AR7 and AR8. Wind industry leaders have already expressed disappointment in a lower-than-expected CfD budget for offshore wind, announced on October 27 and a similar outcome for solar could hinder progress.

Exelon’S Advanced Data Center Pipeline Grows To 18 GwExelon serves more than 10.7 million customers through six regulated transmission and distribution utilities: Atlantic City Electric, Baltimore Gas and Electric, Commonwealth Edison, Delmarva Power & Light, PECO Energy and Potomac Electric Power Co.
The company is continuing to press for a role in providing power in deregulated states like Maryland and Pennsylvania, where utilities are barred from owning power plants.
“All states need to leverage all available options to bring control, certainty and customer benefits to securing power,” Calvin Butler, Exelon president and CEO, said Tuesday during an earnings conference call with analysts.
Utilities can help states ensure they have adequate power supplies through investments in energy efficiency, distributed and community solar and storage, or by owning more traditional generation plants, Butler said.
A pending solicitation for dispatchable generation in Maryland appears to have fallen short of its goal, Butler said. Bids were due at the Maryland Public Service Commission on Oct. 31.
Constellation Energy offered 714 MW of gas-fired, combustion turbines and four 200-MW, four-hour battery storage projects. The storage projects have a 58% effective load carrying capability — a measure of reliability during peak demand periods — while the solicitation called for resources with a minimum 65% ELCC.
Alpha Generation offered a 35-MW uprate at its gas-fired Keys Energy Center, and Total Civil Construction and Engineering made a confidential offer, according to filings at the PSC.
Maryland Department of Natural Resources staff is set to make a recommendation in December on which projects to advance for a fast-track certificate of public convenience and necessity review at the PSC.
“This is all about solving the problem and bringing energy costs under control for our customers,” Butler said. “We are more than willing to step up.”
Besides the 18 GW of data center load that is in official phases of engineering with paid deposits, Exelon utilities have 6 GW of potential data center customers that are close to signing transmission service agreements that lay out the terms and conditions for being connected to the grid, according to the Chicago-based company.
The TSAs help weed out speculative data center projects while insulating the rest of the utility customer base from costs related to serving the data centers, according to Jeanne Jones, Exelon executive vice president and CFO.
The first TSA developed by an Exelon utility is between PECO Energy and Amazon Data Services, Jones said. The agreement outlines how Amazon will pay for any grid upgrades that are needed to supply power to its planned data center in Falls Township, Pennsylvania.
Vistra is set to supply power to the data center from the 1,320-MW, gas-fired Fairless power plant in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, which it bought from Lotus Infrastructure Partners on Oct. 22.
The TSA is under review by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The PJM Interconnection’s market monitor contends the agreement should be rejected unless PECO can show the data center’s draw on an existing power plant won’t increase energy and capacity costs for retail electric customers or hurt grid reliability.
“The adverse impacts on resource adequacy in PJM of the proposed interconnection that will result from the TSA should be a core concern in review of the TSA,” Monitoring Analytics, the market monitor, said in a Tuesday filing at FERC. “The interconnection of large new data centers must be managed so as to provide reliable service to new and existing customers. It is just as essential to national security to reliably serve the existing industrial, commercial and household loads.”

India Targets 215–220 Gw Solar Module Capacity To Power Global Clean Energy Leadership – CareedgeIndia’s solar energy sector is growing at a record pace, transforming the nation from a major importer into a rising global exporter of solar technology. In the last ten years, India’s installed solar capacity has expanded around 32 times, reaching about 127.3 gigawatts as of September 2025. Solar power now contributes to over one-fourth of the country’s total installed electricity capacity. This remarkable growth supports India’s climate goals of achieving 500 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070.
This progress has been powered by supportive government policies such as the Production Linked Incentive scheme, the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers framework, and the imposition of Basic Customs Duty on imported equipment. These measures have encouraged domestic production and reduced dependence on foreign imports. Thanks to these efforts, India’s solar module manufacturing capacity has reached nearly 100 gigawatts, making it the fourth largest manufacturer in the world. Major Indian companies like Adani, Waaree, and Tata Power Solar are leading the transition through backward integration, setting up facilities to produce cells, wafers, and ingots locally. This approach aims to reduce dependence on imports, as nearly 80 percent of solar cells still come from China.
While module production capacity has seen a sharp rise—from 72 gigawatts in March 2024 to about 118 gigawatts by July 2025—the growth in domestic cell capacity has been slower, reaching around 27 gigawatts. This imbalance means module producers still rely on imported cells. However, the outlook for the next few years is promising. India aims to raise module capacity to around 215 to 220 gigawatts by the financial year 2028, while cell capacity is projected to increase to about 100 to 105 gigawatts. To achieve the estimated 215 to 220 gigawatt solar capacity target by FY28, India will need about 36 to 47 crore solar panels. This shows the massive scale of demand for a strong, self-sufficient solar manufacturing ecosystem.
India’s push for self-reliance is already visible in trade performance. The country’s solar photovoltaic exports have jumped more than tenfold between FY19 and FY25, reaching a peak in FY24. In value terms, exports stood at around Rs 94.6 billion in FY25. The United States remains the main market, as American developers seek to diversify supply chains and reduce dependence on China. Although exports briefly declined due to U.S. checks under the Uyghur Forced Labour Prevention Act, they recovered quickly in the early months of FY26.
Looking ahead, private companies have announced plans to add more than 110 gigawatts of new module manufacturing capacity, along with major investments in cell production. This suggests that within the next few years, India’s total module and cell output will exceed domestic demand. Once that happens, exports will become a major growth driver for the sector. Experts believe that India could achieve complete solar self-sufficiency in the next four to five years. However, challenges such as limited polysilicon production and scaling up exports will need careful attention. Despite these hurdles, India’s rapid progress shows its strong potential to become a leading global hub for clean energy manufacturing.

India Adds Around 30 Gw Solar Capacity As It Crosses 500 Gw Power Milestone In Q3 2025India is rapidly growing its renewable energy sector as it works to meet rising electricity demand while keeping its climate goals in focus. By September 2025, coal continued to be the dominant source of power, contributing 43.41% of the nation’s total installed capacity. However, renewable energy, particularly solar and wind, is becoming a key part of the energy mix and expanding at an impressive pace.
In the first nine months of 2025 alone, India added 29,467.55 MW of new solar capacity, showing the strong momentum in the solar segment. This growth has been supported by several government initiatives aimed at ensuring quality and promoting local production. One of the most important measures is the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers, which enforces quality standards for solar modules and encourages domestic manufacturing. Thanks to this framework, India reached 116 GW of solar PV module manufacturing capacity by October 2025. This milestone highlights the country’s determination to strengthen its self-reliance and reduce dependence on imported components.
By the end of September 2025, renewable energy sources made up 39.37% of India’s total installed power capacity. Solar energy has been the largest contributor to this expansion. The country’s total installed solar capacity reached 127.33 GW, accounting for 64.57% of the total renewable capacity. Solar alone now contributes 25.42% to India’s overall power mix, representing a 44.29% increase compared to the previous year. This rapid growth clearly shows how fast solar projects are being deployed across the country.
India’s total installed power capacity surpassed 500 GW in September 2025, recording an annual growth of 10.64%. Despite this significant rise in renewable capacity, coal-based power still generates nearly half of India’s electricity. This underlines the continuing challenge of transitioning completely to clean energy while ensuring reliability and affordability. As more renewable power, which is variable in nature, is added to the grid, issues such as grid stability and uninterrupted supply have become key focus areas for the power sector.
The expansion of renewable energy is also bringing social and economic benefits to the country. Solar and wind projects are generating employment opportunities, especially in rural and semi-urban areas. These projects are improving access to electricity, supporting local economies, and contributing to the development of remote regions. As a result, they are helping improve the quality of life for many communities.
A major advantage of this shift toward renewables is the strengthening of India’s energy security. Increasing the share of renewable energy reduces dependence on imported fossil fuels and shields the economy from global fuel price fluctuations. At the same time, technological advances in energy storage and grid management are making renewable power more reliable and easier to integrate into the system.
Global market changes are also opening new opportunities for Indian solar manufacturers. While coal continues to play a major role, the steady rise of renewables, especially solar, reflects India’s strong commitment to building a cleaner, more self-reliant, and secure energy future that supports both economic growth and sustainability.

The researchers modeled three deployment scenarios –optimistic, median, and pessimistic – estimating power output, capacity, emissions avoided, and market value.
In the optimistic scenario, DERS could generate 66.8 TWh from 28.58 GW of installed PV capacity, cutting 48.19 million tons of CO₂. The median case projects 17.15 GW and 40.1 TWh, with 28.91 million tons of CO₂ avoided. Even the pessimistic scenario would deliver 8.57 GW and 20.05 TWh.
The report links this distributed potential to Morocco’s wider low-carbon transition, which expects 2.5 million electric vehicles by 2035. Their combined battery capacity of 39,420 GWh could cover up to 98% of EV charging needs in the optimistic case.
Hmimad and Ennassiri urged authorities to implement Law 82-21 on self-generation by 2026, publish the necessary decrees for bidirectional metering and compensation, and invest in smart grids. They also proposed creating a National Fund for the Integration of Energy Resources for Depletion to support small-scale investors and households.
