Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) has issued a tender to set up a 625 MW/1,250 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) under the build-own-operate model. The project will comprise two units of 250 MW/500 MWh each and one unit of 125 MW/250 MWh. The projects will be eligible for viability gap funding of Rs 1,800,000 per MWh.

According to the tender guidelines, the scope of work requires the developer to set up the BESS and connect it to the identified substations of Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Limited. The BESS will be used by MPPMCL on an on-demand basis to support the state’s discoms during peak and off-peak hours. The BESS will operate with two charging and discharging cycles.

Additionally, bidders are required to submit a bid processing fee of Rs 1,500,000, an earnest money deposit of Rs 220,000 per MW, and a performance bank guarantee of Rs 1,100,000 per MW as part of the bidding process. The deadline for the bid submission is July 30, 2026.

Earlier, in July 2026, MPPMCL awarded 293 MW under its 800 MW wind power tender, with the remaining capacity yet to be allocated. Ayana Renewable Power Private Limited, a subsidiary of ONGC NTPC Green Private Limited, secured a 193 MW wind project at a tariff of Rs 4.17 per kWh. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited was awarded a 100 MW wind project at a tariff of Rs 4.12 per kWh.
