powerplantUSA, Rhode Island: The US offshore wind sector is regaining momentum after setbacks in late 2025, with major projects now moving forward again. One of the most notable is the Revolution Wind development led by Ørsted, which has reported significant construction progress.
Located off the coast of Rhode Island, the project is being developed by Ørsted and Skyborn Renewables, following the exit of Eversource in 2024. The development highlights the global nature of the wind industry, with an international company playing a central role in a major US energy project.
On 13 March 2026, Revolution Wind began delivering its first electricity to the New England grid, marking a key milestone. The project has now reached 93 % completion as of mid-March.
With a planned capacity of 704 MW, the wind farm will supply renewable power to more than 350,000 homes across Rhode Island and Connecticut. Offshore construction began after final federal approval, allowing for the installation of foundations and other core infrastructure.
A major step in the process was the placement of the first turbine foundation, often called “steel in the water”, signalling the start of full offshore construction. In total, the project will include 65 turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, each capable of generating 11 MW.
Despite the technical challenges of offshore installation, developers have continued to make steady progress, positioning Revolution Wind as a key part of the region’s future energy mix.
