Chongqing, Tianjin And Guangzhou Expand Metro And Regional Lines

In China, new sections of metro and regional railway networks in Chongqing, Tianjin, and Guangzhou opened in January and February 2026. In Chongqing, the 11 km western extension of metro line 4, with nine stations between Min’an Dadao and Shunshuisi Gongyuan, opened on 10th February 2026. Construction had begun in March 2021. In Tianjin, the northern section of phase 1 of metro line Z4 in the Binhai District opened on 18th January 2026. This 23.8 km section runs from Zhaishang to Beitang and has eight intermediate stations. Currently, it is not connected to the remainder of the metro network. Six-car trains run every eight to ten minutes and can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h. In Guangzhou, the 22 km southern extension of the Guangzhou – Qingyuan Intercity Line, with four stations to Guangzhou Baiyun, was opened on 28th January 2026. It was built by the Pearl River Delta Intercity Company, a part of Guangzhou Metro.
