railwayConstruction work on the Hanoi – Quang Ninh high-speed rail (HSR) line began on 12th April 2026. The project's developers are the People's Committees of Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Bac Ninh. The project is financed by VinSpeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development, a subsidiary of Vingroup. Siemens Mobility is supplying Velaro Novo high-speed trains (HST), as well as signalling, communication and other equipment systems. A technology transfer to VinSpeed is also planned during operation. The roughly 120 km line is a double-track, standard-gauge and fully electrified line. The maximum operating speed is 350 km/h, and 120 km/h in the Hanoi section. Intermediate stops are planned at Gia Binh, Ninh Xa, and Yen Tu, as well as a depot in Ha Long. Completion is planned for 2028. More than 2 million passengers are expected at that time, with the forecast rising to over 15 million by 2050. According to the company, the travel time between Hanoi and Quang Ninh will be reduced from more than two hours to just over 20 minutes.
