The German Federal Cabinet has approved the federal budget for 2025, which provides for investments in the railway infrastructure amounting to around €22 billion. Just under €9 billion of the total amount will come from the special fund for infrastructure and climate neutrality. The investments are to be used in particular for the modernisation of the existing network and digitalisation. Over €100 billion is planned for the railway infrastructure by 2029. In addition, €2 billion per year will be provided from the Municipal Transport Financing Act GVFG as financial assistance to the federal states and German state railway DB for investments in the railway infrastructure in regional public transport. The Climate and Transformation Fund KTF will be strengthened with €100 billion from the special fund, which provides for investments in the infrastructure as well as climate protection.
