The
Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority
(LA Metro) yesterday announced its board approved $2.9 billion in fiscal-year 2026 transit funds to be allocated for local mobility projects.
The funding, which represents nearly 30% of LA Metro's entire FY2026 budget, will be allocated to help municipal and local transit operators in Los Angeles County access federal, state and local funding, LA Metro officials said in a press release.
As the regional transportation planning agency for the county, LA Metro provides oversight and distributes state and federal pass-through grants. These grants, along with funding from locally collected sales taxes, will support improvements to transportation in 89 local jurisdictions, they said. Funds may be used to improve transit services or maintain other critical transportation options, including pedestrian options.
Dispersal of funds will begin this month and continue through the fiscal year, which ends June 30, 2026.
