railwayA consortium comprising the Guangzhou Metro Design and Research Institute (GMDI), Arup and TEDI South has been awarded a contract to conduct the feasibility study for metro line 4 in Ho Chi Minh City. The municipal construction authority granted approval to the consortium, which had been selected by the Sovico Group. Sovico submitted detailed proposals to the Department of Planning and Architecture for the project valued at around EUR 5.1 billion (VND 157.4 trillion), which is to be implemented as a public-private partnership (PPP) under a build-transfer model. The plan envisions a 43 km line running from Dong Thanh in the north via Tan Son Nhat International Airport and the city centre to Hiep Phuoc in the south. The design includes 30 stations, 13 of which will be underground and 17 elevated. The infrastructure comprises 18.2 km of tunnels and 24.8 km of elevated track. Additionally, two depots are planned for Dong Thanh and Hiep Phuoc. Sovico is planning to launch construction in early 2027. An initial proposal received preliminary approval from the city government in April 2026. A formal application, including plans for transit-oriented development along the line, is expected in the second quarter of 2026. Concurrently, Sovico is preparing studies for an investment plan regarding metro line 5 running from Da Phuoc to Long Truong.
