Victoria’s Regional Rail Revival program has now delivered upgrades to every regional rail line in the state.
The $4 billion investment by the Victorian and Australian governments has enabled almost 400 new and extended train services each week.
This includes an extra 135 new weekly services thanks to the Ballarat Line Upgrade, and more than 80 new weekly services following the completion of the Gippsland Line Upgrade in September 2025.
The program has delivered 20 new and upgraded stations, hundreds of kilometres of track and signalling improvements, new and extended stabling facilities, and safety upgrades at more than 150 level crossings.
It also included the removal of two level crossings in Geelong which the Victorian Government said were “dangerous and congested”.
Upgrades were also completed across the Bairnsdale, Albury and Warrnambool lines.
The Shepparton Line Upgrade wrapped up last month, with crews working 22,000 hours during a final construction blitz to complete, test and commission a new signalling system. This will enable the line to support more weekday V/Line services between Shepparton and Melbourne.
