Work is set to resume on the part-finished White Rose rail station following the resolution of legacy issues by the combined efforts of both the rail industry and West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
Announced by Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin; work will now resume on the construction of highways and access works to enable the project’s completion.
Network Rail is set to deliver the station, subject to the approval of the Combined Authority, with work having been paused since Spring 2024 due to on-site challenges.
Until this point; the project has been delivered by a partnership between Munroe K, its promoter and joint funder, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority a joint promoter and part funder, and Spencer Rail the principal contractor.
Situated next to the White Rose Business Park, the station is situated on the Leeds to Huddersfield line, and is a short walk away from the White Rose Shopping Centre.
Working with our partners, we’ve broken the deadlock at White Rose station.
We know this delay has caused frustration, but we can now move ahead with delivering a much-needed new station for the area – acting as catalyst for regeneration and growth.
I would like to personally thank Network Rail for their efforts in getting us to this point.
Combined Authority Members will be asked to approve 1.4 million GBP in development funding on 22 January, formally entering an agreement with Network Rail and closing out legacy issues.
Work still to be completed at the station itself include external cladding, an internal fit out, mechanical and electrical works, external works and operational railway works. Highways and access work will also need to be completed before the station is opened to the public.
