Transport for London (TfL) has officially unveiled a set of two new customer toilets at Morden Underground station.

The facilities are part of the Mayor of London’s wider plans to invest 15 million GBP into toilets across the TfL network.

In 2024 the Mayor announced a commitment to spend 3 million GBP each year for five years to introduce new toilets at a number of select stations, increase the number of accessible toilets, enhance existing facilities and improve overall availability, with Morden being the first station to benefit from the latest phase of work.

The station now possesses both a gender-neutral toilet and an accessible toilet, both of which are fully equipped with baby changing facilities. They are located around the area of the former ticket office, with the installation marking the first time a station on the southernmost section of the Northern line’s Morden branch has offered such facilities.

Last year, new accessible toilet facilities were opened at Clapton, Seven Sisters and White Hart Lane London Overground stations as part of the programme. New toilets are also planned for construction at New Cross Gate and Acton Central London Overground stations, with work now currently underway at Amersham Underground, which is set to receive a major refurbishment to convert existing customer toilets to fully accessible facilities.

Further stations set to receive new accessible toilets include Colindale, Leyton, Northolt and West Ham Underground stations, as well as at Surrey Quays London Overground station as part of wider station enhancement works.

A number of midlife refurbishments of existing toilet facilities – including new fixtures, fittings, floorings and tiles – were recently carried out at High Barnet Underground station and Willesden Junction London Overground station, with refurbishment works now underway at Penge West and Crystal Palace London Overground stations. Work is also set to at Stanmore and Watford Underground stations, as well as Bush Hill Park and Enfield Town London Overground stations, in the near future.

A further 37 locations on the TfL network have had an LED lighting upgrade in their toilets, for improved energy efficiency and ambiance.

We know that for many people, not being able to access a toilet can be the difference between going out on the network or not, which can have a disruptive and devastating impact on their lives.

The opening of these new toilets at Morden is a significant milestone in our work to increase and improve provision on our network, building on our programme of improved facilities at Tube stations across the capital, and ties into our commitment to make our wider network as fair, accessible and inclusive as possible.

Currently, there are toilet facilities available at 155 locations across the TfL transport network, with an additional 40 toilets within stations not managed by TfL.
