Zaporizhstal has upgraded its APR-4 rolled steel processing unit to better match today’s customer demand for heavier, “double-weight” coils. The revamp removes earlier technical limits that required extra handling steps—often slowing production and affecting finishing quality.
The modernization centered on the winding section, enabling the line to work with coils weighing up to 16 tonnes. The plant also updated key supporting equipment, including the cleaning trolley and pressure roller unit, and replaced hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders on the winding device. Installation and commissioning were completed by the mill’s team together with contractor support.
With the upgrade, Zaporizhstal expects smoother processing, improved surface/handling quality, and a wider product mix through the ability to produce more strip size options—important for buyers focused on consistency and downstream yield. The move follows a stronger operating year, with the company reporting higher rolled product output in 2025.
