Compact Mbr System Delivers High-Quality Wastewater Treatment

Smith & Loveless Inc. has presented the OXIGEST® MBR™ as a high-performance solution for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment applications where footprint, effluent quality, and operational efficiency are critical. The system integrates the company’s field-erected OXIGEST® biological treatment process with membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology to support stringent discharge and reuse requirements.

Integrated biological treatment and membrane filtration

The OXIGEST® MBR™ system couples extended aeration biological treatment with advanced membrane filtration, enabling effective biological nutrient removal (BNR) and consistent production of high-quality effluent. Designed for treatment capacities ranging from 0.1 to 3 million gallons per day (MGD), the platform supports scalable deployment across small communities, private developments, and industrial facilities.

The system is suitable for both new installations and upgrades of existing Smith & Loveless Model R OXIGEST® plants. By incorporating the TITAN MEM-BOX™, conventional extended aeration systems can be converted into full MBR configurations, extending asset life while improving treatment performance.

Space-efficient design and construction

A defining feature of the OXIGEST® MBR™ is its compact footprint. The system uses concentric tankage to eliminate the need for large tank farms, reducing site requirements and associated capital costs. Factory-built, modular MBR tankage further simplifies installation and accelerates commissioning schedules.

Stainless steel tankage and piping enhance long-term durability and corrosion resistance, supporting reliable operation in demanding municipal and industrial environments.

Automation and operational efficiency

The system incorporates advanced instrumentation and automation to support efficient, low-touch operation. QUICKSMART™ touchscreen controls and remote monitoring capabilities allow operators to manage performance parameters such as dissolved oxygen, blower pressure, and airflow with precision. This level of control improves energy efficiency while maintaining stable biological treatment conditions.

Fully automated operation also reduces operator workload and supports consistent compliance with regulatory discharge limits.

Application scope and project support

Smith & Loveless positions the OXIGEST® MBR™ for a broad range of applications, including municipal utilities, industrial facilities, military installations, and private developments requiring high effluent quality or water reuse capability.

Projects are supported by Smith & Loveless’ in-house design and engineering teams, providing guidance from early planning through system implementation. Drawing on decades of experience in packaged biological treatment plant design, the company aims to deliver cost-effective, high-performance wastewater treatment solutions tailored to site-specific requirements.
