Adaptive reuse projects like the Eagle Cotton Mill present unique challenges. Structural limitations, tight floor heights, and strict preservation requirements often leave little room for conventional elevator designs or major building modifications.

As Architect Ron Bateman explains, historic buildings typically allow very limited structural change.

You don’t get to redesign the building around the elevator, he said. The elevator has to fit the building.
