Malaysia’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has announced the sixth round of its Large-Scale Solar (LSS6) programme, targeting 2.5 GW of solar capacity paired with 1.25 GW of battery energy storage systems (BESS). The tender will be implemented in three lots, with the first lot comprising 2.2 GW solar and 1.1 GW BESS package open to all developers.

The second lot, comprising 300 MW of solar and 150 MW of BESS, and a third 150 MW solar-only lot are reserved for Bumiputera-owned companies. Furthermore, under the programme, bid sizes can range from 60 MW to 500 MW for lots one and two, and 10 MW to 30 MW for lot three Successful developers will receive power purchase agreements of up to 25 years. The programme is expected to attract up to MYR 15 billion ($3.6 billion) in private investment.

Awarded projects are expected to commence commercial operations by the end of 2029. The tender forms part of Malaysia’s broader renewable energy strategy to expand clean energy capacity and strengthen energy security. Administered by PETRA, the LSS programme has been a key mechanism for procuring large-scale solar projects in the country and supports the government’s long-term energy transition objectives.
