The Tamil Nadu government has reviewed the progress of the state’s power sector with a focus on strengthening electricity generation, transmission, distribution, consumer services, renewable energy, and future infrastructure development. The review meeting was conducted under the leadership of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay as part of the state’s efforts to ensure a reliable power supply and support economic growth.

During the meeting, officials presented details of major investments and ongoing projects aimed at improving the power sector across Tamil Nadu. A total investment of ₹15,032 crore is being made across 231 new power projects. These projects are expected to enhance the state’s electricity infrastructure and help meet growing power demand from industries, businesses, and households.

The government also announced that the recruitment process has been initiated for 15,058 employees in the electricity sector. The move is expected to strengthen operational efficiency and improve service delivery across various departments of the power sector.

Significant progress has also been achieved in transmission and distribution infrastructure. A total of 121 new and upgraded substations have been completed at an investment of ₹10,109 crore. These substations are expected to improve power reliability and support the integration of additional electricity capacity into the grid.

To further strengthen the distribution network, the state has allocated ₹2,275 crore for infrastructure improvements. The investment will focus on upgrading facilities and ensuring an uninterrupted power supply to consumers across urban and rural areas.

Consumer service enhancement was another key area discussed during the review. The government has established 77 new Fuse-Off Call Centers to provide quicker support to electricity consumers. In addition, 125 maintenance centers have been strengthened to ensure faster response times and better service delivery during outages and technical issues.

The review also highlighted the expansion of digital services for electricity consumers. These initiatives are aimed at improving accessibility, convenience, and transparency in customer interactions with electricity utilities.

Renewable energy development and the adoption of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) were identified as important priorities. The state plans to accelerate renewable energy integration while ensuring grid stability and energy security.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on timely project implementation, stronger infrastructure, improved consumer services, and the development of a reliable and sustainable power sector to support Tamil Nadu’s future growth.
