The German Federal Ministry of Finance has allocated lower subsidies for promoting alternative propulsion systems in rail transport within the 2027 financial plan for the Climate and Transformation Fund KTF. Around EUR 40.1 million is earmarked for this budget line in 2027, down from around EUR 72.3 million in 2026. Additionally, the plan includes commitment authorisations totalling EUR 12.2 million for 2028 and 2029. This financial plan was presented alongside the 2027 draft budget. According to the website of Project Management Jülich, the final call for proposals under the funding guidelines, which launched in 2021 and expired in 2024, took place in the summer of 2023. While the fund's total expenditure is set to rise in 2027 compared to 2026, the focus is shifting to other areas. Key priorities include climate protection in the building sector, the transition of industry to climate-neutral technologies, and energy cost relief.
