railwayMetrolinx
has started work on the planned expansion of the Oakville GO commuter-rail station, part of its CA$15 billion GO Expansion program geared toward upgrading infrastructure to support population growth and increased ridership demands.
Oakville is the busiest GO Transit station on the Lakeshore West route and second to Union Station in downtown Toronto for the entire network. The entire GO service area, which includes the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Region, Kitchener-Waterloo, Barrie and Niagara, is expected to grow to 15 million people by 2051, Metrolinx officials said.
The expansion program aims to increase capacity to deliver service every 15 minutes or better on core routes, including Oakville’s Lakeshore West route. The expanded station will include rehabilitated platforms with accessibility upgrades, a new pedestrian bridge, elevators and staircases to platforms and parking, architectural, mechanical and electrical services upgrades.
The design development phase began in December 2024; Metrolinx awarded the construction contract to
Kenaidan Murphy Joint Venture
in April of this year. Metrolinx has not announced a projected completion date.
Construction crews will build a temporary widened joint platform to maintain customer access to trains while work is ongoing.
