Mumbai Metro enhances last-mile connectivity with Uber integration via Open Network for Digital Commerce. Commuters can now book Metro Line 2A and 7 tickets seamlessly on a single platform. This integration enhances convenience, supports cashless travel, and strengthens last-mile connectivity.

Introduction:

In a significant push toward smarter urban mobility, Mumbai has introduced a seamless integration between its Metro network and the Uber platform through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The initiative, announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aims to enhance last-mile connectivity and provide commuters with a unified travel experience.

Starting Wednesday, passengers traveling on Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 can book QR-based tickets directly through the Uber app. This move allows users to plan their entire journey—from doorstep pickup to metro travel—on a single digital platform. The integration is part of Mumbai’s broader strategy to build a commuter-centric, efficient, and future-ready transport ecosystem.

One of the standout features of this launch is the instant 50% discount (up to Rs. 10) offered on metro ticket bookings through the app. This not only incentivizes digital adoption but also ensures faster, paperless travel. By eliminating long queues and reducing dependence on physical ticket counters, the initiative significantly improves the overall commuter experience.

Key Highlights of the Initiative:

Mumbai has already established itself as a leader in integrated mobility solutions. The Mumbai One App serves as a unified platform combining suburban railways, metro, buses, and monorail services. In addition, commuters can access ticketing through WhatsApp and use the Mumbai One Card (NCMC) for cashless travel across various modes of transport.

The Metro ticketing ecosystem is further strengthened by its availability on multiple ONDC-enabled platforms such as Yatri, Ixigo, Navi, and RedBus. With Uber now joining this growing list, commuters have more flexibility in choosing their preferred booking platform.

Insights:

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri. Devendra Fadnavis said: “Our vision is to make Mumbai’s public transport more integrated, accessible, and commuter friendly. This initiative ensures that every Mumbaikar can plan their journey seamlessly, with strong last-mile connectivity. Through ONDC and digital platforms like Uber, we are strengthening Maharashtra’s digital public infrastructure and delivering convenience at scale.”

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, said: “This initiative is a significant milestone in building a unified, multimodal transport ecosystem for Mumbai. It simplifies access and enhances commuter convenience through digital integration. With multiple platforms, including Uber, Mumbai One App, and WhatsApp ticketing, we are ensuring that Metro services are accessible anytime, anywhere. | am happy to share that nearly 72% of tickets on Metro Lines 2A and 7 are booked through digital apps and the Mumbai One Card, making travel largely paperless and contributing positively to environmental sustainability.

Expanding Connectivity and Infrastructure:

Authorities are also focusing on improving first- and last-mile connectivity through:

Currently, Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 serve over 3.5 lakh passengers daily. The network is expected to expand further with upcoming Lines 2B and 9, which will soon be integrated into the same digital ecosystem. This expansion is set to improve accessibility and reduce travel time across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The initiative reflects a broader vision of creating a sustainable, digitally empowered transport network. By combining multiple services into a single, accessible platform, Mumbai is redefining the urban commuting experience.

Conclusion:

Mumbai’s Metro-Uber integration marks a major milestone in digital urban mobility. By simplifying ticketing and improving connectivity, the initiative enhances commuter convenience and efficiency. As the network expands and more platforms join ONDC, Mumbai is set to become a model for seamless, technology-driven public transportation in India.
