Repair and resilience works across more than 40 landslip sites on Wisemans Ferry Road at Spencer and Gunderman have been completed, restoring a key Central Coast transport link following severe storm damage.

The $28.3 million project, jointly funded by the Federal Government and New South Wales Government under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, includes both essential reconstruction works and more than $8.4 million in betterment funding to improve the road’s resilience to future natural disasters.

Federal Minister for Emergency Management, Kristy McBain, said the investment would help communities recover faster from future events.

“By investing in restoring and improving vital infrastructure such as Wisemans Ferry Road, we are helping local communities bounce back more quickly from natural disasters,” McBain said.

New South Wales Minister for Roads and Regional Transport, Jenny Aitchison, said the works go beyond simple repairs.

“This investment has enabled Central Coast Council to strengthen the road to better withstand future natural disasters, rather than just repairing the initial damage,” Aitchison said.

The works were delivered following significant storm impacts in 2022, which caused widespread landslides and disrupted access for local communities, emergency services and freight operators.

Central Coast Council Mayor Lawrie McKinna said restoring the corridor was critical for the region.

“Wisemans Ferry Road is a lifeline corridor for the Lower Hawkesbury and a vital connection for thousands of people,” McKinna said.

“Restoring this road means locals and visitors can once again travel more safely and with confidence, while ensuring essential services can reach the people who depend on them.”

Further stabilisation works are also underway nearby, with additional projects funded to continue strengthening the network.
