SteelRussian steelmaker Severstal has completed hot tests at its upgraded slitting line No. 10 at the Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works, also known as CherMK. The modernization project, launched in 2024, was aimed at improving productivity, product quality, and equipment reliability in cold rolled steel processing.
The upgrade, valued at over RUB 1 billion, replaced nearly 80% of the line’s equipment, including rotary shears, tension station, oiler, and winder. During testing, the unit produced more than 6,000 mt of cold rolled coils and met the required operating standards.
Once the line reaches full designed capacity, Severstal expects annual output of complex and specialized cold rolled products to rise by 15,000 mt. These products will serve sectors such as radiators, household appliances, auto components, industrial shelving, and small-diameter pipes.
