water(UI) — The DuPage Water Commission is moving forward with construction on its WaterLink Project, a 30-mile water main extension designed to deliver Lake Michigan drinking water to the growing communities of Montgomery, Oswego, and Yorkville.
Construction on the first phase is now underway, following a December 2025 start. The project includes installation of a 54-inch-diameter water main that begins in Naperville and extends west through multiple connection points. Approximately six miles of the pipeline will be located within Naperville city limits.
Current work is concentrated along Book Road, where crews are completing staged closures between 75th Street and 103rd Street. Only one segment of the roadway is closed at a time to maintain access through the corridor, with detours posted during active construction. Installation along Book Road is expected to continue through spring 2027.
The WaterLink Project is intended to expand regional water supply capacity and provide long-term system redundancy as demand increases across southwestern DuPage County and neighboring communities. Once complete, the new main will integrate with the existing Lake Michigan distribution system.
Additional construction phases will follow as the project progresses westward. The DuPage Water Commission is providing ongoing updates and traffic information as work continues.
