Veolia has announced the acquisition of Enviropacific, a portfolio company of Next Capital, enhancing its technological and operational capabilities in remediation, water treatment and hazardous waste management across Australia. Enviropacific reported a FY25 turnover of approximately $174m and employs nearly 300 people. The transaction, valued at around $153m (enterprise value), remains subject to financial close and customary conditions.

Amid growing environmental and public health concerns, PFAS contamination has emerged as a significant issue globally and in Australia, largely linked to the historic use of firefighting foams at defence sites, airports and industrial facilities, affecting soil and groundwater across multiple regions. Strengthened regulatory frameworks are now driving large-scale monitoring and remediation efforts. In this context, demand for advanced treatment solutions continues to rise, reinforcing Veolia’s role as a key partner for industries and public authorities addressing PFAS contamination.

Veolia has been active in the PFAS treatment market in Australia for over 20 years and has established a strong presence, offering soil remediation, contaminated waste and water treatment (including PFAS), as well as in-field technical services. These capabilities are supported by dedicated infrastructure, including thermal treatment and soil washing facilities, landfill assets and water treatment sites.

This tuck-in acquisition of a well-established local leader in soil remediation represents a significant milestone in Veolia’s ambition to lead the response to emerging contaminants, particularly PFAS, by scaling up its integrated, high-performance solutions. It strengthens the group’s position in complex soil remediation and on-site treatment, enhancing its ability to deliver fully integrated, high-value services to both industrial and public sector clients. The acquisition also supports the group’s target of generating $1bn in revenue from micropollutant treatment by 2030 through its BeyondPFAS offering.

The deal is expected to create strong value through revenue growth and operational synergies. By integrating the client base and project pipeline of a leading soil remediation player, Veolia aims to accelerate its expansion in high-growth remediation and PFAS treatment markets in Australia. Combining Veolia’s global technologies with its engineering and field expertise is expected to enhance execution, optimise solutions and improve margins.

“This move reinforces our position as a trusted partner for Australian public authorities and industries seeking resilient, future-ready solutions to address pollution and protect public health. It is fully aligned with our GreenUp strategy and marks another step in strengthening Veolia’s global leadership in environmental security,” said Estelle Brachlianoff, chief executive officer of Veolia. “With this acquisition, Veolia continues to set new standards in environmental remediation and accelerate the deployment of our most advanced technologies in Australia. This is precisely what GreenUp represents: combining innovation, performance and impact to tackle the world’s most critical environmental challenges.”
