Steve Capewell has been appointed as the new managing director of Goulburn-Murray Water following an extensive recruitment process.

Commencing on July 6, Dr Capewell brings a strong track record of executive leadership and water sector experience, and a clear commitment to working with customers, communities and stakeholders to deliver sustainable outcomes.

Goulburn-Murray Water chair Justin Hanney said Dr Capewell’s appointment was a boon for the utility.

“Following a rigorous search process, the board is confident that Steve is exceptionally well placed to lead Goulburn-Murray Water into its next chapter,” Hanney said.

“Steve brings a strong understanding of the complexities of the water sector, a clear focus on outcomes, and a genuine appreciation of the vital role our people play in delivering services that support regional communities, agriculture and the environment.

“Throughout the recruitment process, Steve demonstrated strong alignment with Goulburn-Murray Water’s purpose, values and strategic direction, and a leadership style that will serve the organisation, our customers and our stakeholders well.”

Having been managing director of Goulburn Valley Water for the past five-and-a-half years, Dr Capewell said he was delighted to be staying in the region by joining Goulburn-Murray Water.

“It’s an exciting time to lead Goulburn-Murray Water amid the challenges and opportunities facing the water sector,” he said. “I look forward to working with the board, staff, customers and stakeholders to build on its strong foundations.”

Dr Capewell will work with departing managing director Charmaine Quick for a few weeks before Quick finishes up in late July.
