Moment Energy plans to establish a battery repurposing facility in Vancouver, Ont., aimed at enhancing its capacity to manufacture energy storage systems from retired electric vehicle batteries. The facility is set to be operational by June 2026 and will cater to industrial customers, utilities, and data centres.

This development is significant as it aligns with the growing demand for energy storage solutions and supports local job creation while promoting sustainability in battery usage.

Moment Energy plans to build a battery repurposing facility in Vancouver, Ont., expanding its capacity to manufacture energy storage systems using used electric vehicle batteries.

The company said the facility is expected to be completed and operational by the end of June 2026. It will process retired EV batteries and convert them into energy storage systems for industrial customers, utilities and data centres.

The project will expand Moment Energy’s manufacturing footprint in North America as demand for energy storage continues to grow.

The facility is designed to handle the full process from battery intake and testing to system integration and deployment. According to the company, it is expected to operate under UL 1974 certification, which relates to the evaluation of repurposed battery systems.

Moment Energy said the site could reach capacity of one gigawatt-hour by 2030 and create more than 100 jobs.

The company said the project is intended to keep battery supply within North America and reduce reliance on international supply chains.

The announcement follows a recent funding round in which Moment Energy raised US$40 million, bringing its total capital raised to more than US$100 million.
