JET Plant Hire, one of the UK’s leading road-planing contractors, are offering a rare opportunity to join their dedicated training programme, Jet School – an intensive nine-month course designed to equip trainees with the practical skills needed to begin a career in road planing.
The company, named on the
list, plays a key role in maintaining the nation’s highways. Road planing removes damaged road surfaces using specialist machinery, allowing new layers to be laid – work that successful applicants will be trained to carry out.
With the construction sector facing a growing skills shortage and more than one million workers expected to retire within the next decade, initiatives such as Jet School are helping to secure a vital pipeline of new talent to support both the business and the wider industry.
Last year saw Tyler Rock become the programme’s first graduate, and he continues to thrive with the company. Jet operate from depots in Evesham and Newton Abbot, and are expanding further with a new location in Yorkshire. Mr Rock described his training as ‘a brilliant opportunity’, adding that it enabled him to learn from experienced colleagues while developing valuable new skills.
Simon Bithell, managing director of Jet Plant Hire, said: ‘This is a unique and exciting opportunity to learn from our team and start an exciting, new career. Graduates will benefit from a structured career path, gain essential knowledge, and have the opportunity to join the growing industry. We’re proud to lead the way in developing the future stars of the road planing industry. Our Jet School recruits are also educated on how to work safely and sustainably, fit for the future.’
Nigel Huddleston, MP for Evesham and Droitwich, commented: ‘I was delighted to hear that local company Jet Plant, who I have previously visited, is inviting applications to their Jet School in 2026, taking on trainees for a nine-month intensive programme and equipping them with skills to work in the road planning industry. This is a brilliant initiative, and I certainly wish Jet Plant all the very best and look forward to hearing how successful the programme has been.’
The curriculum includes operating a planer, setting machine levels, depth checking, kerb cutting, general machine competency, and basic maintenance.
