The January used equipment data from Sandhills Global delivers a familiar mixed bag of information. I’ve tried to make sense of it all for our fleet readers. Below I’ve broken down trends for the top five categories of used equipment, mostly with a construction-focused bent. Inventory continues to shrink across most construction and truck categories. Prices remain under pressure. Still, several markets posted month-over-month value gains. For fleet managers and operators, Sandhills Global’s data on used equipment for January holds some interesting insights. But before we dig in... If you don’t know, Sandhills Global is an information processing company headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska. It gathers, processes, and distributes information through print publications, websites, and auction platforms. It basically connects buyers and sellers of construction, agriculture, trucking, and other types of equipment. They own stuff like TractorHouse and Machinery Trader . As a result, Sandhills G

HYUNDAI Construction Equipment are to launch a host of new and updated machinery in 2026, further broadening their product line-up and increasing their penetration into new market sectors. The company will also expand its after-sales and service offer, launching a new spare parts line and boosting customer service solutions. For the second year in a row, Hyundai will unveil multiple equipment innovations in the coming year, led by the Next Generation line of crawler excavators initially launched at the bauma exhibition in April 2025 with the unveiling of the HX360L and HX400L models. The crawler machines are also the first from Hyundai to feature full electro-hydraulic (FEH) controls. Rather than using hydraulic pilot controls, the machines use electrical signals from the levers in the cab to control the hydraulic system. This reduces response time and boosts precision, while allowing operators to fine tune each control to meet their individual requirements. According to Hyundai there

SUSTAINABLE materials supplier GRS has celebrated delivering a landmark 20 million tonnes (Mt) of primary and secondary aggregates to HS2 while exceeding performance, compliance and sustainability standards. Representing more than 80% of the bulk fill aggregates used along the 230km route, the 20Mt achievement was delivered through GRS subsidiary Rail Stone Solutions, establishing the firm as a leading supply chain partner for major infrastructure projects GRS is supplying all HS2’s main works contractors (Align, BBV, EKFB and SCS) and the company’s multi-modal delivery strategy has already seen over 70% of the aggregates delivered by train in partnership with GB Railfreight. This ‘rail first’ approach has helped to avoid around 700,000 vehicle journeys to date, reducing road congestion and saving an estimated 300,000 tonnes of CO₂. Rail freight typically emits around 76% less CO₂ per tonne compared with the equivalent road transport. As an intermediary trader, GRS is uniquely placed t

JANUARY data indicated a much slower decline in construction output than at the end of 2025. All three sub-sectors recorded weaker rates of contraction than those seen in December, helped by a more stable demand environment and reports of a gradual turnaround in sales pipelines. At 46.4 in January, the seasonally adjusted S&P Global UK Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) – a headline index tracking changes in total industry activity – was up sharply from December’s five-and-a-half year low of 40.1. The latest reading was the highest since June 2025, but below the 50.0 no-change value for the thirteenth month in a row and indicative of a solid reduction in total industry activity. House building was the weakest-performing segment in January (index at 39.3), though the pace of contraction eased to its slowest for three months. Survey respondents cited a lack of new residential development projects and subdued demand conditions. Civil engineering activity also decreased at a

The European equipment sector is entering 2026 with cautious expectations. I mean, who isn’t? Last week, analysts shared the latest Euro outlook during Intermat’s Industry Day in Paris. Intermat is an enormous off-highway equipment tradeshow in France. At Industry Day, associations reviewed a variety of topics — market data, sustainability initiatives, economic risks and opportunities — and painted a realistic picture of Europe's off-highway sector. I visited Intermat once, and it might be time to go again. The Paris-based tradeshow runs every three years and gathers global OEMs, contractors, rental firms, and policymakers to discuss infrastructure, equipment, and technology trends across Europe. These ideas and products often end up in America as well. The next edition of Intermat takes place April 21-24, 2027, at Paris Nord Villepinte. Now, here are seven things I learned from Intermat’s Industry Day press kit: 1. Equipment sales have maybe stabilized European equipment sales improve
