Oglethorpe Power Appoints Kiewit as EPC Partner for Monroe County Plant

Oglethorpe Power officially selected Kiewit Corp.’s subsidiary,

(TIC), as the engineering, procurement, and construction partner for its new combined-cycle natural gas power plant in Monroe County, GA. The TIC team is expected to mobilize in Q2 2026, with the facility’s commercial operation anticipated in 2029. Once online, the 1,425-MW power plant will generate and deliver reliable, efficient electricity for homes and businesses served by Oglethorpe Power’s member cooperatives.

“We’re pleased to partner with Oglethorpe Power on this new combined-cycle natural gas power plant that will help meet growing energy demand across Georgia,” said Andrew Gardner, Senior Vice President of The Industrial Company. “With our experience in complex power generation projects and our focus on safety, quality, and collaboration, we’re committed to delivering a facility that will provide reliable power for years to come.”

At peak construction, the project will employ approximately 1,200 skilled workers. TIC will begin workforce recruitment in June 2026, offering positions across high-demand skilled trades, including boilermakers, pipefitters, and electricians. Aside from technical expertise, TIC will lend its safety culture, community partnerships, and commitment to local hiring and suppliers. Oglethorpe Power is hiring approximately 30 permanent positions in operations, maintenance, and administration at the plant, with hiring continuing in phases throughout construction.

“Oglethorpe Power has been a valuable partner to Monroe County for decades, and the selection of Kiewit subsidiary TIC will bring jobs and other meaningful economic benefits while strengthening the reliable energy infrastructure that supports Monroe County residents and businesses,” said Eddie Rowland, Monroe County Commissioner.

Recently, Oglethorpe Power selected GE Vernova’s 7HA.03 gas turbines for the Monroe County project. TIC and its affiliates are experienced with this technology, delivering over 82,000 MW of gas-fired capacity and 35 combined-cycle projects in the last decade—25 of which feature advanced-class turbines.

“We are proud to partner with TIC for this critical energy project that will support our mission to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable energy to our members and the millions of Georgians they serve,” said Annalisa Bloodworth, Oglethorpe Power President & CEO. “Its success in delivering complex power projects safely, on schedule and within budget, combined with a commitment to safety and community, makes the company an ideal partner for this facility and aligns with our cooperative principles and dedication to Monroe County.”

The new combined-cycle facility will support long-term, system-wide load growth across its cooperative membership—not to serve any single customer or standalone project. Currently, Oglethorpe Power operates the existing Smarr Energy Facility and co-owns the coal-fired Plant Scherer. The company is owned by and serving 38 electric membership cooperatives across Georgia.

In May 2025, Oglethorpe Power chose GE Vernova’s

for its new natural gas plant. Per the agreement, GE Vernova will supply:

GE Vernova will also provide a 20-year long-term service agreement that includes all services and parts for the HA gas turbines, steam turbines, and associated generators.
