City of Boca Raton
, Florida, has received $2 million in federal funding to create a
new public grade crossing at Jeffery Street
in northeast Boca Raton.
The project will extend the roadway connection between NW Second Avenue and Federal Highway/US-1, creating a roadway connection across the
Florida East Coast Railway
corridor, restoring access between neighborhoods and improving travel options for residents, businesses, and emergency responders, city officials said in a press release.
The existing NW 28th Street railroad crossing will be closed. Construction is slated to begin in fall 2026 and be completed in 2027. Work includes roadway extension and widening, construction of a new grade crossing, intersection improvements, signal modifications, sidewalks, drainage, lighting, signage, striping and other safety improvements.
The project is part of the city’s Capital Improvements Program and is being coordinated in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation and Florida East Coast Railway. The federal funding came through a Congressional Community Project Funding award.
