RailwayRepresentatives of the
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority
(MBTA) and project partners joined state and local government officials at a June 26 ceremony to mark the completion of major improvements to Boston’s Kendall/MIT station.
Located on the MBTA subway's Red Line, the station is named after the primary areas it serves: the Kendall Square business district and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Renovations include new elevators, escalators, stairways and upgraded public spaces, which provide easier access to one of the busiest transit stations in Massachusetts for riders of all abilities, state officials said in a press release.
Renovations were funded by developer BXP and the MIT Investment Management Company in coordination with the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority. Since 2020, private development has invested about $60 million in the Kendall/MIT station, state officials said.
